Put a line through Port. They don't have the picks or the cap space. Unless they want to send us Georgiades or Amon.
We'll take pick 6 from Adelaide thanks.

This hurts more than any other player to ask for a trade in recent memory. For a lot of reasons. Mostly that he's so talented and has a huge future.

Would be a nice change for a player to simply say I was offered substantially more money.

Very disappointing news, especially given the club was patient with Jordan early, and developed him into the player he is today. I can’t see Port having the cap space for him, with all their bright young things, plus Dixon, Wines and Grey. We should get a really good deal from Adelaide for him. Hopefully their first round draft pick.
Nevertheless, wish him the best - except against us. Covid means it’s not so easy for anyone to be away from family and friends these days. Can’t just jump on the plane during the bye round, or stay and visit after an Adelaide match, so I do appreciate his decision.

All about 'going home' is the narrative in the media - we offered him a very good deal by the sounds of it. Disappointing to hear what he had to say just last week at the B&F then to come out with this now. But I've never completely understood the desperate 'yearning' that a lot of exceptionally well paid footballers have to be 'closer' to family - especially when a fair chunk of them will still be 3 hours down the road! Its not that I don't get the want to be able to visit family and be relatively close - but its not like (COVID aside of course) they are badly placed to make that happen even if they all don't like in close proximity. Anyway that is what it is.

So frustrating after getting him just to the point where we would get genuine return on significant investment into his development. What a waste if he goes to the Fruit Tingles however (noting that would probably be the best outcome for us trade wise). They are still a fair way off competing for anything for mine, although he would be a great addition to their team.

I reckon we could extract Port's in exchange for our second potentially (and maybe a bit more - their 2nd rounder next year as well perhaps?), which wouldn't be a bad outcome. Can't see the Fruit Tingles giving up pick 4 however. Could perhaps extract their first pick next year + a 2nd rounder this year perhaps if we bargain hard.

Knowing how we often seem to just bend over and take it, 2nd rounder it is lol.
It is very painful because we were very patient with him and developed him into a very good player who is now entering his prime. Bummer all round.

              Adelaide's provisional picks: 4, 23, 37 (Melbourne), 59 and 63 (Fremantle).

Pick 4 won't be enough IMO.

And Port Adelaide's picks are nothing but dregs. Forget them, unless they offer us one of their best half-dozen players (to relieve cap space) and pick 17.

No offence, but we don’t want to negotiate with one club. We want a bidding war, and if it is genuinely a family situation which I understand it is, then let the games begin

If Adam Cerra is apparently worth pick 6, Dawson is worth more. A better kick, a better mark, more versatile.

Not so sure about that Runner. If they offered up their 1st pick next year and found a way to manufacture a 2nd rounder of some form this year, that would probably be enough to deal.

I've read some reasonable analysis that suggests we may not take a whole heap in this years draft anyway - if we could find a 2nd 2nd round pick and have 3 good selections inside say the top 30/35, and bank some useful currency for next year (when I understand we might have academy prospects too), then it wouldn't be a bad outcome.

Still suspect we will get bet over badly out of this, as we often do and end up getting unders.

I think those who think Adelaide are going to trade pick 4 for Dawson need to take their Swans coloured glasses off. Best we can hope for is Port’s first pick and a ruckman in Hayes or Ladhams in some packaged deal

Well, that is the awfully disappointing news that I did not want to hear. Dawson has been one of my favourite players to watch this year.

                        Alas, and we move on.

This is a disaster that puts us out of flag contention in the next few years IMO.

Gonna disagree. Not necessarily precisely on pick 4, but if some of the trades of recent years are indicators, a bloke who’s one of the best kicks in the comp, can play third defender, backline release and wing, stellar mark, 20 quality possessions a game and coming into his prime, then a late first round pick and average second ruck ain’t it.

The counter of course is the Swans are practical traders. Just think this is one where both Adelaide clubs will be desperate to get him for different reasons (Adelaide, he’s young and massive list improvement; Port, premiership window) and we can play the market hard.

I don't agree - one player doesn't make a team, no matter how good they are.

Its really disappointing news and he is a big loss - that is for sure. And we won't easily replace him.

But it also probably gives us some opportunities we may not have had as easily available in coming years. If Hewett leaves as well (which I think it will), the impact on our 2022 season may be significant. But it will also mean we will have created quite likely sufficient cap space to manage effectively the challenges we will have post next season with contracts, and to give flexibilty for us to chase a big name or two to 'top up the list' post 2022 or post 2023, when we will have a better grasp on where the key deficiences in the team lay.

No doubt we will really miss his quality - but with change comes opportunity, and we have been pretty good at finding a way to make use of such opportunities.

The last few years have highlighted how damn important getting the most out of our academy is however - one thing is that while the world might be more connected then ever, the lure of family for AFL players doesn't seem to diminish (despite their ability to overcome physical distance - COVID aside) being greater than ever.

Jeremy Cameron to Geelong cost Geelong picks 13, 15 and 20, in exchange for future picks 30 and 32. This is about 2,000 points. Kelly to West Coast cost the Eagles those same picks 13 and 15.

Pick 4 is worth 2034 points.

I previously said pick 4 wouldn't be enough, but after looking at the Cameron trade I'm not sure now. Pick 4 would be a trade roughly the same value as Cameron to Geelong.
