Yep I remember all of them - great players.

I guess what I am trying to point out is they are the most vulnerable club in the league right now. Salary cap pressure and paying ordinary players big money. And a coach in a degree of trouble. And now a total football review.

Tom Morris OTC tonight reporting Hawthorn & Tom Mitchell are open for him to be traded to a big Melb club for a good draft hand. Richmond was suggested by the panel. Jonathan Brown thinks Mitchell is worh a late 1st round pick.

I will stick my head above the turret and pose the question about whether we should make a play for Mitchell? We lack a class midfielder at present who wins large possessions. He is the ultimate distributor and may be a good addition to feed it out to Ollie, Stephens and Co? I certainly think he would make a better addition for us than he would for any of the so-called "big Melbourne clubs" like Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon. They don't seem to need that type of player.

I note that he does not want to leave cold, grey, lockdowned Melbourne for one of the world's great cities, but if he wants to play in a premiership contender going forward then we may be a good option for him. I will now prepare myself for the anticipated abuse for suggesting this possibility.

I don't think any of the Melbourne based sides in the 8 would be prepared to give up a first rounder for him.

I think Essendon may be the only Melbourne based side he would consider outside of those mentioned.

I don't see him improving at his stage of his career so I would not take a punt on him at the Swans.

We sound consider Mitchell, he's is still young. Probably our second rounder, plus some exchange of later draft picks.

He wants to stay in Melbourne and play for a club in flag window. I’d send him to North!

Geelong surely? They should have fallen off a cliff by this time next year

North sound like a good option to me. They are happy to offer overs to everyone. [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

Geelong will want him to play for unders on the other hand. Adding him to their mix would actually lower their average age. I can't see how he is what they need though.

Overall, I think there are very few teams that are looking for a player like him. Virtually none in Melbourne as they all seem to have settled midfields or are going for youth. I think the Swans are one of the few teams you could argue that would benefit from him given our midfield lacks a high possession winner and has a lot of young ones coming through. Joey is nearing the end. However, I acknowledge that his potential value to us is a debatable point as I mentioned earlier. A lot would also depend on what we would have to give up in salary and picks and whether he could be convinced to relocate interstate again. Interesting to ponder though!

I don’t think Mitchell is the answer. People may disagree, but his role is now being played by Callam Mills, who I think over the next three seasons will prove that he is a better and more damaging midfielder.

I also don’t want to give Mitchell the big money he will ask for. I would prefer to give that money to Chad and J-Mac.

I'd be utterly utterly guttted if Swans management flushed our "fingerlings" in preference of recruiting a ludicrously expensive "big fish"

Certainly no abuse April, as every suggestion merits due consideration- however some can be a bit far fetched! Out of interest, have we ever taken back a player who left us?

In Mitchell’s case, clearly the money was a big factor. Now it is fair to say that as professionals they want to secure their future but the coin he received from the Swans was not exactly shabby and is there such a thing as love of a club ?Mitchell didn’t show too much. On that basis I say no thank you!

No from me he is to slow , we have Kennedy , Parker and now Mills going through the middle with suspect leg speed . Kennedy the only one close to retirement. He has also had some significant injuries the last few years

Keep in mind Tom Mitchell still has 2 years remaining on his contract which gives Hawthorn bargaining hand not to accept unders for him. Don't think they have cap space issues like Collingwood needing to offload him. Agree with above sentiments that his Melbourne Clubs wish list is very narrow in current state of play, so every chance he'll see out his contract at HFC and then possibly move as RFA.

He went to Hawthorn just after their premiership window had expired and it would be apt if he ended up at Richmond in same trajectory, whilst we enjoy finals glory! He may in hindsight rue his decision leaving us when he did for just a few dollars more.

He obviously chases the $$$. Can't blame him because that's how he pays the mortgage. Having said that, I prefer players who show a smidgeon of genuine love for the club. Given our cost of living disadvantage, these are the sort of players we need to attract.
