I suspect we are worrying too much

some player take more development time

    Dawson
    Rampe
    Kennedy
    etc

these guys needed more time in practice and ressies etc to master a few key areas that will ensure their ability to be Snr players and go onto be elite

Gould, Stephens, McDonald etc are the same in potential and they will stay........because the draft system is in our favour re first right contracts and the time to develop them properly

I suspect that Gould is aware he will be the understudy to Rampe and at 191cm, Gould is fast enough, strong enough, big kick to make this possie his in own in a couple years as Rampes moves towards retirement etc

I look forward to the combo of Rampe, McCartin and Gould as our key defenders in the near future

I'm not as confident as you about Gould, Auntie Gerald, but I hope that you are right.

Nice. +1 (Although, that means I like the idea of Paddy as a bargain pick-up, but, really, I trust the club to make the right call.)

I posted this on another thread thinking I was in this one

We won't lose any player the club sees as integral to our Premierships assaults!

Could see Hewett Sinks and Reid all being wanted but potentially unable to fit in

Very tough with few injuries in a squad

I think we need to let go some of our older players.
Do we need sinkers anymore?. Reid?

Unsure where to place this, but here goes.

I'm not usually a big fan of AFL management, but I have to compliment them on their handling of all the rescheduling.

If any companies post covid are looking for whiz bang crisis managers, look no further.

                  These people are exceptional.

They have stayed that necessary half a step ahead of the border openings and closings.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that they are a huge economic influence, and have magnificent govt contacts, but regardless, a fantastic job.

                  Two months to go.

There are lots factors to consider in list management (and I’m glad I don’t have to do it).

Reid is clearly in our best 22. He is an excellent mark, can threaten the scoreboard, provide support in the ruck, or float down and shore up the defence when needed (he offers versatility). But he has had injuries and has eaten up considerable money in the salary cap. I’d like to see him stay (for all that he offers above), but there are risks to whatever decision is made. Does his inclusion prevent the development of Amartey (about whom there are no guarantees either, despite the promise shown.)? Will he be able to stand up for a full year (or at least when needed at the pointy end)?

Sinkers hasn’t offered as much this year and seemed out of sorts or form when he came in (but this hasn’t been the case over the course of his tenure with us). Who knows, maybe he can still be a serviceable backup option next year in the absence of anything better.

If we are in contention now, and I believe we are, then, theoretically, we will also be in contention next year. Perhaps it is the right time to be offering one year contracts to people like Reid and Sinkers to bridge the gap between staying in contention, safeguarding against injury and allowing others more time to develop and mature.

I think we should just look at getting rid of the absolute fringe next year (the journeymen mids or the lacklustre draft picks) before getting rid of Sinkers or Reid (providing we can balance the salary cap over the course of the longer term retention contracts that need to be made or those already done). The only caveat to that is whether they would be interested in a one year deal and whether the opportunity became available for a big bodied defender (which would change things considerably).

Here's some (fingers crossed) potentially good news re Dawson.

Gets him to free agency, at a club seemingly on the rise towards premiership contention. Then he will either be able to demand a big contract from the Swans (if his form continues as good as it is), or to have good currency on the market to demand big $$$.

I see Kelly just triggered his eight year deal with GWS. That'll blow their cap for the next decade. Cool!

                              Let's go vulturing.

2 year deal as per Twomey on AFL website. Seldom off the money and doesn't sensationalise.
