The club wouldnt be on the fence , we only drafted him 2 years ago we obviously rate him .

The Stephens issue is whether he will accept a low priced two year contract with us, or asks to be traded if another club offers him three years with more playing time.

I do agree KSAS - but wouldn't be suprised if one or both do want to leave. With Gould I think its probably a case of many getting so ridiculously excited by some good signs in the SANFL and overrating where he is up to in his development to reality. That combined with the lack of reserves footy, away from home, and not really showing he is quite ready yet have meant he hasn't yet got a chance. We've got a track record of long apprenticeships with key defenders however, so hope he will stick around and give it another year at least.

I agree with this. Dyl has the talent but is yet to develop the confidence from within, and from his team mates , to feel like he belongs. He is still a young, and lightly built, player who has not played many games. JMac is now in his third season and I'm pretty sure there were many who in the middle of last year wouldn't have predicted he would be where he is now. JMac still misses more than his fair share of tackles (ie Stringer against Essendon) but has confidence in his run and carry. Dyl needs to be given a few games to build that confidence. We need to persist with him as he has the skills to become a good player. He needs to want to become that player and that is the role of the development coaches to help him build that inner belief that he can make the grade.

I would think that Gould is almost certain to move on at season's end given his inability to earn a seniors spot at all in his two years in Sydney. Whether someone else decides to give him a go will be interesting to watch. Perhaps a Rookie List elsewhere?

Ive definitely liked what I’ve seen of him up forward and did you read that article that says GWS had been playing him in the backs in the VFL and apparently he’s really impressed there as well

Is Daniel Talia another possible KPD option? RFA & hasn't as yet been offered contract by Crows due to his ongoing foot iinjury. Probably in the too high risk injury category but can't help.thinking he could be another Tom Hickey type revelation.if he can get his body right.

Our tight salary cap may also be an issue even though he won"t cost us draft pick. Also aware Talia & Swans wasn't a good outcome previously!

It might be worth noting, by comparison, that George Hewett also didn't get a senior game in his first 2 years, then followed by barely missing a game in the subsequent 4 years. But it is worth stating that George had quite a good record at reserves level, while Gould hasn't been quite so impressive. One additional factor to consider is that George didn't have the Covid disruptions to deal with that Gould has had.

It\s hard to measure the effects on the development of players these past 2 years, except that it seems that a number of young players are not making the kind of progress we've seen in the years prior to Covid. The change of reserves coach from Shaw to Laidler may also have had an effect.

I suppose we could compare the rapid rise of a player like Chad Warner, who came in the same year are Stephens and Gould, but it sounds like Chad was ready to play from day one.

Of the 7 players taken in the 2019 draft year, only Chad can be considered a success. This is way below our typical success rate.

The introduction of the medical sub and the reduction in the soft cap are additional destabilizing factors worth taking into account.

In summary, I believe the evaluation of our less than successful young players requires a deeper scrutiny that in the past. The usual parameters may not hold up as they did pre-covid. Maybe our football department already has this under consideration. We probably won't know until we get to draft time.

The school midfield coach of Chad and Corey Warner rated Corey as more advanced than Chad at the same age.

We must have Corey. The whole offseason strategy must be devoted to positioning to pick up Corey.

Does anyone know where Corey is projected to go?

Good points. Ludwig. Let's see what happens post-season. It certainly has been a horrible time for developing players over the past two seasons.

I'd happily take Talia on a 2 yr deal. Frees up Rampe to play a more re-bound role. I know this divides people, but Melican is just not good enough IMO. Talia is an elite defender and provides us the coverage needed to recruit/develop a new young defender.

However the recruitment of Talia would certainly spell the end for our P.McCartin ambitions.
