“Jordan Dawson fascinates me,” said Lyon.

“I remember this year when he was ripping it to shreds, half-back onto the wing, just went through this vein of form and now he’s being squeezed out.

“It looks like it’s apparently for salary cap reasons. So he’s gone back to Adelaide ....

This is the kind of shallow and incorrect crap that the AFL media wheel out all the time. Dawson is not being squeeezed out because of salary cap reasons. We now know he was offered a generous contract of up to five years but chose to return to SA so he could be closer to family.

Just annoys the poo out of me that these type of statements are made and rarely challenged. Not that that would help get Dawson to stay. Fearing he'll choose Crows and we'll get well unders :-(

To be fair, it was the Swans who said it was an "attractive long-term deal" and that he had a "desire to return to South Australia to be closer to family" as others have pointed out, it could all come down to $$$

Crows won't give up pick 4 so we try for their 1st round pick next year. Certainly will be top 10.

Port have encouraged Ladhams to explore his trade options! Do we want a Port cast-off?

          No Cookies | Herald Sun

"In his exit meeting, the club suggested he might like to consider his options given their list of key talls and determination to remain with first-choice ruckman Scott Lycett well into the future."

This is who we should be targeting. I don't know whether we can also get their first round pick as well but I would be happy enough to get that and hand them back our 2nd rounder with Dawson.

Ladhams has good upside as a ruckman and can also take a mark forward so he would be a quality pick up if we can get him.

Port are loading up for a premiership like Geelong have done. So anyone surplus to requirements has to make way for a player with impact.

Good younger backup to Hickey. Would let us delist Sinkers (feels harsh saying that)

Considering Port are letting him go, he wouldn't have a lot of trade value.

Perhaps they know we would likely ask about him in any trade for Dawson as we did last year with Aliir. Maybe because they are really desperate to land Dawson they've jumped on the front foot and told Ladhams to look elsewhere so he expects to be offered up?

I don't think Port will be giving him away, given he's contracted. I do hope JD nominates Port as we'll have the Crows hanging over the negotiations. I don't think Dawson and our 2nd rounder for Ladhams and their first is totally unreasonable.

Would prefer Hayes to Ladhams. Much more upside.

Agree. Dawson is around the same age and while some may view talls or ruck types more highly in trade value, Dawson showed his quality this year as a potential future star, even landing two 3 vote games in the back half of the year.

Our need for a ruckman was WAY greater this time last year. Now we've got one of the best rucks in the comp. I think we have much more leverage than they do. Even more so if our salary cap crisis has now been averted.

Last year it was reported that we sounded Port out about Ladhams and we put George on the auction block. It was widely assumed that thse 2 items were linked - and that Port wouldn't trade Ladhams for either George or the player we must now refer to as AAAA.

Now Port want to shed Ladhams.

So either he's gone way down in their estimation, or we never actually wanted him at all. Either way, something smells funny.

Seriously? You want the Swans to belly up to the risk/reward roulette table again?
Surely everyone on RWO now had at least a modicum of awareness of the downside of grandfather offers?
