I'd be ok with evens, then move on but don't think we should roll over for unders. Cows have signed him to a reported 5 x $650k, you should come up with a trade that reflects that kind of contract.Comment

Young Tom caveats apply:
'“Jordan Dawson rejected Sydney‘s offer, which was $600,000 per year across five years. That was an increased offer from what they initially put to him,” he said.
“The Adelaide proposal is $650,000 a year for five years, but this isn’t really about money - it’s about his family, his partner going home, him wanting to live in South Australia and wanting to build something from the ground up at the Crows.”
The trade table will prove fascinating between the Swans and Crows for Dawson - something Morris also flagged.
“The Swans are going to want a first rounder. Adelaide’s pick No.4 is what Sydney I’m sure will at least table in the first place but that’s off the table from a Crows perspective as is a future first rounder,” he said.'

No player should feel bound to a club in todays environment any more than any other employee feels towards their employer. In that sense, often that loyalty is tested by the situation you are personally in as well as the boss at the time.
If Dawson now has an ability to go home to Adelaide for more money , good luck to him, if I was from Adelaide and someone in my industry offerred me more money to come back home I would probably take it as well. Cheaper standard of living , family and friends in closer proximity - no brainer really.
We like to think football clubs are a "family" but to be honest from what Ive seen , thats a narrative created by the clubs to endear a sense of loyalty to them. Ive seen businesses in other industries do it and most of the time its quite frankly nonsense and used to create a feeling that your special and being looked after when the realty is that you probably are not.Comment

How transparent. You’ll say nice things if Dawson stays.
That’s the greatest act of transparency since Plugger in the 90s. He was the most hated opposition player after he whacked Caven and kicked the ball at Kenny in the same game. The next year he’s every Swan supporters favourite player.
Football clubs are funny tribal places.Comment

From Dan Cherny in The Age (where the reporting is accountable): "Sources familiar with the situation suggest Sydney are preparing to make life difficult for Jordan Dawson as he seeks a move to Adelaide."

If that is true then it likely means that the Swans, like a lot of us here, were/are very unhappy with Jordan and his departure....and if this is true, I say good....play hardball.....it's about time we did! Time for a line in the sand on players wanting out and recipient clubs screwing us.
Sick of us being a soft touch at the trade table.
I’d take this year and next years second rounder as a bare minimumComment

If wicks picks up 2 more disposals a game, and sorts out his goal kicking accuracy he is about level with papley. Except he will have about 4 more tackles and 15 pressure acts a game. Plus he is about 3/4 years younger than the all Australian, and doesn’t get to play the attacking role as papley does. Probably worth sticking with and developing further?Comment

I suspect Sydney rate him in pick 6-9 area, which I think is right. If their pick was around the back end of that range, I think that would ultimately get it done.
I don't know about this 'soft touch' thing. We were happy to let Mitchell go. We stared down Carlton on Papley.Comment

Good points but it begs the question 'why is he playing AFL footy then?'. For flags and team success or for the money? Because he could have given us a few more years and gone home with a Premiership medal, instead he may now never get one. He'll certainly be waiting for a few or maybe many years, if ever.....with the Crows. But at least he'll have a big cheap house....
In 2 years time Dawson could go home as RFA earning bigger contract $$$$ & club receiving compensation pick greater than currently likely to receive in trade.
Like some have mentioned, i also sense club is peeved at his go home factor for family reasons which has a last minute feel to it, particularly if our increased contract offer of 5 × $600k is accurate.
On.the other side of the coin,.deciding to nominate a bottom club for just additional $250k over 5 years (if accurate) may suggest other issues at play.
Not sure if PA can match or better Crows offer with their cap, if they can offer better trade deal. Going to Port would stilll fulfill his supposed go home desire.
If we play hardball it may test Dawson's true movitation, as he may say stuff it & re-sign for another 2 years if it gets too complicated than expected. No guarantees Crows will.pick him up in PSD as Norf will have at least just as much cap space to snare Dawson on whatever price he decides to put on his head.Comment
