This play below is setting the NFL world alight. It happened on a Thursday night game where more than 14.1 million people tune in.

The AFL skills are remarkable. The recovery, the one handed pick up at pace and then the kick that got his team 68 yards. From where he picked the ball up it was a 80 yard turn around. Most American natives would have just dived on that ball.

He turned a disaster (blocked punt) into a miracle.

The famous coach Pete Carroll said that he’d never seen anything like it.

I wonder if the Swans had drafted him what we could have had. He obviously has great skills and knows what to do under the most extreme football pressure.

For such an aficionado of NFL and corporatism, you would surely know that punters earn an average of A$5,000,000.

So my question for you is: How would you propose we fit such an athlete in our salary cap?

Or are you banking of the go home factor to come into play?

Have Norf explicitly ruled themselves out of a potential PSD move on JD?

I recall his name around that time but not living in Sydney never saw him play, I don’t think there was any serious interest in picking him up at the time

You can’t bag the Swans for passing on him but you get the feeling with what he’s gone on to he had the mental strength to succeed.

Having said that I’m reasonably unfamiliar with NFL and my limited understanding is that the kicker has the least physical requirements in the game

Adelaide are ready to take Dawson in the PSD. Maybe Melboune's future 1st is the best we can do. I had hoped that Adelaide would be decent enough to throw in pick 33, but maybe not.

It's even hard to come up with a revenge strategy.

I’m going to keep my glass half full and say that this demonstrates the Crows preparedness to give up every one of their sacrosanct picks. And now Norf have said no, they can start handing them over to us!
On the second paragraph: yes, me too. Unless he's annoyed with us for some reason, surely he doesn't want us to get nothing in return.

I'm not with you on the third paragraph, as it only suggests to me that they're willing to burn us completely and trade up.

I kind of get Aprilbr's point, but what if North had accepted? Pretty gutsy bluff.

If you're North, surely you're talking to Dawson's manager about whether this 'go home' business has some flexibility.

Isn’t it funny that something so unremarkable in an AFL game is so special in gridiron. The teammate interviewed raved about the punter’s ability to think on the run. Just illustrates what a game for meat head robots NFL really is.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My point in para 2 was that the Crows have shown they are prepared to trample all over their trade for JD in pursuit of JHF. So despite saying Jordan is their "number one priority", he's not. They are prepared to risk losing JD in their pursuit of JHF. I wouldn't feel great about the bona fides of the Crows after that if I was Jordan.

Well Bangalore.. they are two different sports.... Just because one can make it in the AFL that does not mean he can make it in the NFL and vice versa. There are only two players that i can think of that have had decent careers in both sports: Ben Graham (Geelong) and Darren Bennett (WCE/Melb). Other than that there are a litany of AFL players who have not cut the mustard making it in the AFL, but have had a reasonable career in the NFL (think Michael Dickson as you have rightly pointed out, Arryn Siposs etc). So I do not think you can compare the two.

The two sets of skills are totally different. AFL is a well rounded game, whereas NFL is only punting (in a particularly different way I night add) and really nothing else (unless you have some other role on special teams).

It’s easy we look for an Adelaide player with a year to go on their contract . Offer them the world and sign them the following year . Two teams can play this game

That offering by Adelaide of all their 3 first rounders to Norf for No. 1 has really shocked us all! Given this revelation, as I see it, we have 3 main options from here but whatever we should do we should not panic!

                        1. Stick with our recent offers and see what happens as the deadline looms. If it gets with an hour of deadline and still no budging then trade him for the future first rounder of Melbourne assuming that's on the table.
                        2. Take the future first rounder of Melbourne shortly on the basis that it might be the best we can get and they may trade it away.
                        3. Stick with our recent offers and see what happens as the deadline looms. If they don't bite, then accept he is heading to the PSD but hoping we can somehow find a way to talk him into re-signing.

I am thinking that option 1 is still the best one assuming there is little chance that they would send those picks elsewhere and they would still do a deal at the death. However, I could see why option 2 could reluctantly happen as it ensures we get something.

We have really been screwed over here by a combination of factors all going against us: a surprising decision to leave despite a good offer; JD being out of contract; Adelaide being low on the ladder.

Just to confirm, the pick in the PSD is not aligned to the pick in the National Draft.

If Adelaide moved up to pick one in the National Draft does that mean they also move up pick one in the Pre-Season draft?

2 different drafts based on ladder position, except that the PSD picks can’t be traded
