Maybe the Grandfather offer to North by Adelaide also had a commitment by North not to take Dawson.

It did appear to be over the top for 3 spots up and a local pick.

    - - - Updated - - -

Its essentially 2 picks for the No 1 pick.
With the 3rd pick for Dawson anyway.

Dawson: Has some time to go. Summarises Friday's offers. More clarity may come on Monday. My guess: Melbourne's future first-round pick and a swap of second-round picks that is to the Swans' advantage.
I would certainly take that offer at this stage if it indeed comes through. Im not convinced that Adelaide are prepared to even offer that though.

All of this talk on here about the PSD worries me. If he goes to the PSD, we lose big-time. End of story. This is regardless of whether he ends up at Adelaide (extremely likely) or Norf/GC (extremely unlikely).

I hope he doesn't too as I want us to get the best deal out of it as possible!

But if he does, I'm confident Adelaide will be selecting him (which will really piss me off!).

I can't understand this obsession about North taking Dawson in the PSD. It doesn't help the Swans at all. What's the difference if Dawson lands at Adelaide or North? It's only the threat of it happening which has any impact on the negotiations, and history tells us that the threat is next to nil.

I was thinking that if Dawson had informed us that he wanted to go to Adelaide before the B&F awards night, we could have arranged for him to win the Clubman of the Year award. That would have been embarrassing.

If we walk JD to the PSD and he goes to the Crows for nothing, then we've completely stuffed up. Letting JD go to the PSD is only worthwhile if we know someone else will take him. And even then, it's only a last resort.

It's not worthwhile at all. We still get nothing for Dawson.

If no deal is done it could end up this way heading towards the pre-season draft.

Jordan - have North and GC returned your calls.

                Manager - No.

Jordan - Do you know what there intentions are?

Manager - They haven’t returned my calls and haven’t said anything publicly.

Jordan - I’m getting worried. Should I up the price on my head to deter North and GC.

Manager - I’ve spoken to Adelaide about this and they won’t go higher than X.

Jordan - the offer is good but maybe not enough to deter clubs with salary cap room. My partner and I under no circumstances will entertain going to Melbourne or the Gold Coast. This is my life and career on the line. How can I get some certainty.

Manager - Swans have called me and will offer you two years at xxxx. Still a strong offer after all we’ve been through. Take you to free agency where you can decide what next. They have a good team as well.

Jordan - let me talk to my partner. She knows people in Sydney and likes her job there. I don’t want her to have to start again in GC or Melbourne.

                Headline

                Boomshell, Dawson recommits to Sydney.

I think the point of the argument, Ludders, is that the plan of North taking him in the PSD would become public. Dawson then has the choice. Go to North or re-sign with Sydney. I'm sure he's take the latter.

There are several parts to this. Number one, KB needs to be pretty confident that JD won't get to the Crows via the PSD. Then there are genuine stakes in the negotiation for both sides. We stand to lose JD for nothing but JD stands to not get to the Crows and the Crows miss out on the player who is their "number one priority". I cannot imagine that's going to be an outcome player, agent or Crows want. It would be an unmitigated disaster for the Crows in fact.

Part two, this coming week will be a game of chicken. Someone is going to blink. We don't want to blink first. Being prepared to lose him for nothing guarantees that.

Thirdly, if the Crows do refuse to come to the party this time and JD goes to another club via the PSD, we'll lose him for nothing, but I don't think anyone is going to try and lowball us again.

We clearly would rather not do it, but we have to be prepared to, to extract a better deal.

We are being offered next door to nothing anyway.

Nice words there GS. And for those who misunderstood; when he says free parking he mean$ parking at no co$t.

                          From Daniel Cherny:

"This looms as a classic blinking contest, and the Swans are more than toying with the idea of letting Dawson go for nothing and try his luck in the pre-season draft if Adelaide don’t come to the party. Sydney are of the view that there has essentially been a blurring of lines between free agency and merely falling out-of-contract. And they are taking a stand on it."
