      Awesome Warnerville scenes lol ????

Ps if young Corey Warner is listed at 182cm and Chad was listed at 181cm in his draft year......to me Chad looks a few cms taller than his brother in each photo......than maybe Chad has shot up to 184cm minimum over 2021?

I was working night shift last night and in the quiet hours I managed to watch some footage on YouTube of young Sheldrick. If you get the chance I recommend watching the WAFL Colts Grand Final. He looked very good in this game and his disposal by foot looked really improved from some earlier vision from this year (barring one horrible turnover late that cost his side a crucial goal!) But he should be forgiven for that as he was no doubt nearly out on his feet after working so hard whilst carrying a nasty corked thigh.

After watching that performance I'm more bullish than ever that we could have a real beauty if he continues his rate of improvement that he has this year. And Roberts also looked impressive on closer inspection in the last WA vs SA game this year (where Sheldrick was B.O.G. and kicked the sealer). Roberts hardly ever wastes a possession and makes really good decisions with the ball. He could be a steal if given a chance!

          Very happy with our picks!

I think Sheldrick gives off a similar vibe to JMac from the description given by Simon. Relatively late bloomer but now on the steep part of the learning curve, heading towards a high peak.

Having read and watched further, I'm feeling very comfortable with our draft haul, every pick seems well thought out, can't have enough midfielders!

Also liking the accumulation of players with high footy IQ and the WA contingent we are building, really useful there's four driven characters in that group now.

It would seem a given we are taking paddy McCartin in the Pre Season sign on period and I wonder if Angus Anderson and another one or two academy players may train with us over the summer.

I stumbled across this radio interview with Sheldrick from yesterday (so after he was drafted). He says that his manager believed that he (Sheldrick) was the Cats' prime target in moving forward to grab pick 23 in the draft. Given the Swans were also pretty keen on that pick, I daresay they were aware of the Cats' interest.

Interesting article reranking each clubs 2016 draft haul. I like what it has to say about the (lack of) validity of grading clubs the day after that he draft

Even if 2 grandfathers = 1 father - Tom still wouldn't have qualified. His grandfathers only played 93 games for the Swans between them. The currant qualification for males is 100 games.

I think these comments from Dalrymple sum up our draft:

“The way it fell was with the midfield but our approach was always best player available,” Dalrymple said of the Swans approach to the draft.
“I believe you can’t have too many midfielders. It puts pressure on the existing midfielders and that is what you want.”
“Pressure to get positions and everyone raises the standard.”

This is the source: In-depth review of new draftees (sydneyswans.com.au).

I like that we took best player available (or claimed to). I am a bit doubtful that Corey was taken solely because he was the best player available.

Sheldrick and Roberts were both players I named pre-draft as players I would like to draft. Like others, I'm happy we have picked good footy players, competitors and hard workers ahead of athletes. Corey is the most athletic and even he is competitive and hard working. It's good to have a pool of strong mids and it is definitely going to put pressure on the incumbents. We don't want to put all our eggs in the one basket and depend on Rowbottom and Warner being what we want them to be.

I suspect we are going to focus on building Gus's tank for him to start really pressuring for a game - he seems to ready to go otherwise. I wonder how much progress he can make over pre-season?

Matty Roberts I suspect is pretty much ready to go. If we have injuries he could easily slot in to a bench spot and rotate through the half-forward and midfield roles.

Rankin looks a great prospect but will probably be a fair while before we see him at AFL level if he makes it. If I'm guessing he won't debut in 2022 or probably 2023 either but that will really depend on how he develops.

Corey I have the least idea about and he's actually the one I'm least enthusiastic about. I would have loved Draper or Taylor with that pick. (I may have mentioned this already....?)

I was mildly amused with one of the draft ratings that I read. Without looking it up, I think they gave us a C and Carlton a B. Carlton had one pick, that they used on Jesse Motlop.

Looks like we have 36 main list and 7 rookies. Leaves us with a total of 43 we can have 44. allows us 1 extra > to get both mccartin and anderson i believe we will need to injury list naismith, any one agree.
