For me it's the fact that our early-mid career players like Heeney, Mills, Papley, Dawson, Florent & Hewett are coming into their prime now.
They are all men now, and throwing their weight around a bit.

Had a bit of a feel to an early 2012 game when we beat the hawks in round 5 down in Tassie. They were undefeated there and also the premiership favourites. Love being a swans supporter when we can watch games like yesterday!

“ How anyone can want Rowbottom in this team is absurd.”
I feel the most absurd thing is your relentless unwarranted negativity towards him especially given that 98% of other Swans supporters and more importantly the team selectors disagree and rate him as one of the top 22 players at the club.

A lot of the players were cramping up and it was such an intense effort by us. Certainly some sore bodies to potentially rest with a short gap to our next game. Bombers looked good today so no easy game coming up!
Buddy for McLean would be my only change.

Unless we have an injury, I wouldn’t be bringing RB back for the moment. Not because he doesn’t deserve to be back but purely because there is no one to drop.

Because the double standard among those 98% is rife. Mcinerney who suits our current game plan to a T is on the chopping block supposedly , meanwhile Rowbottom who offers us nothing special and will struggle in this game plan gets to walk back in without having to prove himself in the reserves ! What sort of message does that send to the squad when a kid who has played under 30 games gets to just claim a spot in a team that just flogged the reigning premiers without having earned it??? Our depth is good atm we shouldnt have to accept middle of the road performers. & spare a thought for Stephens who has worked his butt off in the ressies to be recognised and was made a travelling emergency yesterday but will have to sit and watch RB have shot gun on a spot in the 22 just because hes a favourite. Its BS and it could cost us form against the bombers

We have the perfect mix of older players and young guns , make no mistake there is no ceiling on this group so start dreaming swans fans . There will be testing times throughout the season but as long as the youngsters are managed properly a high ladder finish is very much on the cards and anything is possible . They have zero fear that is the best part , there is no respect for reputations , we all know they will be better in the years to come but they might just shake the patriarchy to the core this year

Get the sorest player and the one with the most Km under their belt beyond their capability out next week otherwise you run the risk of injury + not hundred percent effort. Who that would be is anyone’s guess.
Hayward, Stephens, Bell, Rowbottom, Ling are the next level players and are ready to step up. We need the run to cover players such as Merrett and McGrath.

I have been critical of Florent by foot but he seems to have found his skill. He is certainly not in the same class as Gulden, Campbell or Dawson but improved heaps over last year.

Our forward line is too potent. Our midfield is now gelling, have great foot skills and are and able to do the 2 way run. Our defence can be better but again it’s the midfield that need to work hard to prevent repeat entries and also roll back to help and they did it well against the tigers.

Who said Mcinerney is on the chopping block? However considering the age difference is only one month and they were drafted in the same year ( RB 2nd round Justin 3rd round ) the statistics bear out that at this stage RB is an inside mid with a much higher tackle , clearance and contested possession rate.
Maybe that’s why he is appreciated by so many? You need players like that getting the ball so that others can use it.
I do agree however that dropping anyone after yesterday will be tough and he may in fact have to wait out another week and give his injury another week which may be beneficial later in the season when rest assured his value to the team will be obvious maybe even to you ????

Mcinerney is more damaging than RB. If i was Ben rutten i wouldnt care if Rowbottom had 30 possessions -- which he hasnt come close to doing -- he doesnt hurt you with them. He is not explosive or speedy or attacking like Warner and he doesnt compete as a bull for 4 quarters or accumulate like Kennedy Parker or Mills. Little handballs in general play wont hurt you as a team. Mcinerney can break lines, run hard hit targets. Very dangerous when hes on. Just ask Adelaide Crows

No brainer between the two. We have to stick with what will work for our game plan , its worked so far and RB hasnt been a part of that beside one quarter in rd 1. Harsh but true, sorry.

Impossible to remove any player on form.

McDonald and Campbell looked a little quieter this week. Maybe it may be tough to back up after 5 days for them. Gulden still looks like he is running really well.

Bit worried about Reid’s cramps and needs careful care. I’m assuming he comes up.

                      Maybe the changes are

                      Outs:

                      McDonald (Managed)
                      Campbell (Managed)

                      Ins

                      Stephens
                      Franklin

You can move Blakey to spend some time on the half back flank to accommodate Stephens through the midfield.

Franklin is a like for like swap with McDonald.

McDonald and Campbell can just come straight back in for the Giants game.

That’s as comprehensive an unpacking of this (watershed) game that you’ll find . Thanks for posting Mark.

Yes, and to me it was also reminiscent of early in the Roos era, when we first started to beat the very powerful Brisbane side.

Did you take the time to look at the stat comparison I linked ? I suspect not as it doesn’t support your assertion. It’s also worth doing comparisons on RB and all of the players you mentioned by selecting the at the same age filter at 19 the age he was for most of last season.
Illuminating reading however I will summarise it for you to save you the effort of having to do some research.
Overall ahead of Kennedy Florent and Parker at the same age but behind Mills who has benefitted statistically from spending the first few years of his career in defence. RB is just 20 years old and while he is not quite the bull you long for he soon will be.
Your assessment of him seems to be based on emotion not evidence or facts ?

When we lost to Richmond last year Hardwick complained about us having 70 thousand players in their foward half and being a horrendous game to watch. It was another horrendous game for him to watch as he would've wished he had 70 thousand players in our foward half yesterday!

With daylight savings coming to an end his team will get to turn the clock back this morning as there was daylight between the two sides yesterday!

I know there were many highlights yesterday. But how about the second quarter 60 meter pass from Gulden to Tom Hickey all on his own and the subsequent goal. It made my jaw drop. Awesome.
