The majority these days are bottom feeders, they are sustained/fed on dirt. Negative/controversial stuff sells more papers or allows more comments. Sadly clickbait is the bread & butter of so called 'journalists' these days.Comment

Which is why I seldom read them these days. I prefer meaty analysis to the opinionated speculation, but alas, these are few and far between. The signal to noise ratio of modern journalism is too low."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Precisely. And that's without thinking about the cushy ones they got all night otherwise last night.
As always, a nice write up from these guys of the game - always pretty balanced.

What appears to have happened with the Hayward mark is that it was touched off Parker's boot but a whistle blown for a mark by the other umpire, then play on called before Hayward could even get up. No wonder Hayward was non_plussed about the call. Should have been a ball up.

I totally agree. I think coaches should be given two DRS referrals a half. The coaches can call for a decision review after the play has stopped. Win or lose the decision they lose a DRS.
They don’t get the DRS reviewed until the play is over:
- point scored
- ball out of bounds
- ball up
This will stop coaches using DRS to hold up fast breaks.
I think it will give the coaches more impact. A good coach will be one that has a review remaining to have a look at the Cameron decision. A good coach will review a free kick against, push in back or holding the ball decision when the outcome of the decision is crucial.
It will give the crowd more excitement and help those upset people who always feel hard done by the umpires.
Well done Leigh Montagna.

Need to keep innovating. AFL needs to keep innovating to insure that teams consistently get to 100 points. The man on the mark change this year has been very good.
Let’s give the AFL coach a DRS. It works brilliantly in the NFL. I just want people going home without the umpiring decisions being so prominent in debate and argument.
Razor Ray leading the instant decision review bunker would be a hit.Last edited by Bangalore Swans; 3 May 2021, 08:31 AM.Comment

Something to consider:
We all agree that the umpires were calling play on as the ball was in the air, so has it occurred to anyone in the media that perhaps the players also heard this - hence the easy mark. There is a good chance that the defending Swans elected not to spoil because of the umpires repeated calls for play on.Comment

The media's groupthink on these matters is quite extraordinary."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Interesting theory but you can clearly see the Swans players who challenged Cameron for the mark were as clueless about the call as Cameron. Mills looked crestfallen as he rose from the turf whereas Papley visibly reacted and tried to tackled Cameron only once he heard the umpire call play onComment

To see why it is a bad idea, consider that the clock is running. What happens if a DRS overturns a decision? Does the time get restored? What if the siren sounded in the meantime? How would they unsound the siren? What if it's the end of a Grand Final and the DRS decision is dubious?"Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

And what if the ball bounces around for three or four minutes before there is a break in play. We regularly see it fling between the arcs. Are we going to rewind and replay the whole section. Talk about adding time to the game.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
