I originally thought I heard a touched immediately as well, but the commentators on telly wouldn't shut up and let anyone hear beyond their diatribe when they replayed it 5 times lol.

Good point on Rampe. Gould may have to wait a bit longer.....and maybe Fox, considering COR's solid effort tonight.

That’s what I thought at the time too. I tried listening to it again on the replay but it was too hard to make it out clearly. Hopefully this is cleared up early, if true.

Geelong would have to be very disappointed to lose that game after such a dominant 1st quarter. I can't understand how they can fall off so much. We played better, but they really dropped off.

Unlucky for Melican to get injured after such a solid game. But at least we know he can play the position and we can have more confidence in him when he returns, although his record with injuries is now becoming very worrisome.

Hickey is making me change my mind about ruckmen. At 30 yo he's come from near oblivion to become one of the best ruckmen in the competition.

          • Florent is having a breakout season. He's becoming a star.
          • Except for a few errant disposals, Rowbottom had and excellent game.
          • I don't know if it's the hand injury, but Heeney needs to get more involved in general play.
          • Hayward has talent, but his composure at times is very poor. I hope it's fixable.
          • Good game from McLean with his 4 goals in an undermanned forward line.
          • Solid comeback game from O'Riordan.
I had to check: that contested possession stat might be a bit out, as there's a difference between our disposals and our possessions. Might be more like 153-140? But still we did lose most of the stats. Although most of the discrepancy was in the first quarter.

Yes, Florent has been very good for most of the season. I suspect that Heeney will soon pick up the pace, when he starts to spend a little bit more time in the middle and maybe a bit of time loose in defence, if we have to protect a lead. And what to say about the surprising Mr Hickey?

One player that you didn't mention was Stephens, who I thought was instrumental in getting us back in the game.

            Indeed!

A great night at the footy. The SCG crowd are really into it this year. Don't know if it's because we missed it so much last year, but they are really vocal. Good to see.

I'm not one for harping on about umpiring but by my reckoning Geelong got a goal after an obvious HTB not paid, casually threw one over the line without getting called deliberate and of course, the ludicrous deliberate against us that wasn't, near the end. So I don't reckon they have much to complain about on that score.

Hickey is so good to watch. Almost seems like the teams fortunes swing depending on whether he's on the field. They had a dip when he went off with a facial cut tonight, started scoring again as soon as he came back! McLean was really good tonight too.

Thought we were headed for a blowout after Q1, just a great fight back. Should give them plenty of confidence for Melbourne next week.

It may be confirmation bias but i can definitely hear "touched play on" twice. It was only the IDIOT Richo that turned the narrative to "not 15" and then the other commentators piled on.

I just watched Chris Scotts post match press conference (In my opinion he whinged while trying not to look like a sook but he was being a massive sook, like he normally is).

He did make a really good point that when you're wrong you should admit it and then try to improve and move on. What are the chances he comes out this week and says he was wrong about the the last kick being correctly adjudicated "touched play on" and not incorrectly adjudicated "not 15m"?

I used to refer to him as Forrest Gump when he was playing. I'm not sure much has changed. Lovely man but the Rhodes Scholarship is a way off yet.

On the HS website, big headline alongside photo of Jeremy Cameron which reads "Were Cats robbed by controversial decision?" Beneath the photo is caption "Sydney staged a remarkable comeback in a thrilling finish, but an umpiring call in the dying seconds denied Geelong the chance to pinch the win. See the incident."
They will have egg on their faces when it's revealed they've missed umpire's touched - play on call before Cameron took that mark. I assume there'll be no mention of the favoured umpiring the Cats received all night (it's a paywall article - waste of money!)

And the contested mark in defence. His marking was important all game.

According to Horse’s post match presser and the SMH (I won’t post the link as it caused chaos last time) the club hypothesises that the reason Hickey got back so soon after completely tearing his PCL is because he had injured it back in 2016 and therefore was used to playing without it.

That’s my poor form of words paraphrasing.

Oh my News.Com have article calling the Cameron non mark a howler which marred our victory:
AFL round 7: Sydney Swans Geelong Cats, Jeremy Cameron, umpiring howler

"But the umpires quickly intervened when Cats forward Jeremy Cameron thought he had secured a mark directly next to the posts.
The officials either believed the kick was less than 15 metres or it had been touched, and Cameron did not hear their calls of “play on” over the roaring Sydney crowd."

The "officials" which are called umpires in AFL, can clearly be heard calling "touched play on" when the ball was in mid flight as some here have posted. There is no second guessing by the umpires as the above statement seems to suggesting. Sounds to me the Journo who wrote this article (Nic Savage) isn't savvy with AFL, didn't watch the game & is just reacting to Ch 7 & Fox Footy commentators of the incident who all failed to pick up the umpire's play on call. Like sheep the lot of them!

Best night ive had at the footy in years. Had a sneaking suspicion it would come after seeing JL's spray at 1/4 time. Holy heck it was was a good'n.

Mccartin, What a player he has become. Twice hes done a number on Tomahawk. No small feat. Made no secret my views on Hayward and Melican but both were great in the air. Dont like to see anyone injured. Young Stephens grew into the game and he will be better. Florent class and bog for us. He is better on the outside. Leg speed breaking lines is what we lack. Chad is a total bull and Jmac silky as. Excellent goals from both. Papley and Heeney were total let downs !

Dont rate Mclean but credit where its due he was a mammoth. Headed to the Bradman stand expecting the Hawkins and Cameron show - didnt think i'd be seeing the Mclean show !

Kennedy once again a class above , especially late. Game on the line - some of his efforts were extraordinary. Concur with those saying Hick is our most important player. You cant beat a ruckman when they are at full flight. Joy to watch. Filthy umpiring from those green maggots and the constant ducking of that grub Selwood aside , fantastic night. Fantastic win. This group have got plenty of life in them to make an impact this season
