I very much doubt it. I do agree that Taylor's cards are marked - but I think he's known that a good while and so he isn't likely to spit the dummy on that account now. Last year, when he won the double-edged accolade that is (Swans) VFL player of the year he had a rueful smile. Earlier this year when he was interviewed and asked about his goals for the season he tellingly did not talk about making seniors but only said that he'd like to play, and hopefully win, VFL finals.

        No.

I can't imagine who he'd replace. Only contender would be Ryan Clarke but I'd much rather have Sheldrick in to play that role if we were going to replace Clarke (which I don't think we should).

Sheldrick is the more desperate scrapper than Roberts and I think he's better suited to play closer to goal of the two. Roberts is a natural midfielder, wins and uses the ball well, and gives it a good roost, works hard, plays both ways but doesn't (yet) apply quite as much pressure defensively as Sheldrick (or Mills, or Rowbottom, or Wicks/Bell/Clarke) and I don't envisage him roving and snapping as many goals but more bursting away from the centre square (at medium pace) and kicking from 50.

I'm a bit bemused by the seeming lack of excitement on the Swans website surrounding the VFL team playing on Saturday. Plenty of 'noise' about the AFLW team and rightly so but nothing except the date, venue and time of the match for the VFL team. The players who are playing this Saturday would be having a different preparation one would presume than those preparing for the Saturday following? I suppose sooner or later we will hear something ... ... anything!

Does anyone know if Ladhams and Cunningham qualify to play having each only played 6 VFL games?
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

The rules of qualification only come into play when the senior side is no longer in AFL finals contention.

I can confirm that the AFL and VFL squads are training separately this week given the AFL don't have a match but the VFL team do. VFL players training Tues/Thurs, AFL had a light run on Lakeside yesterday and will be back at it tomorrow I think.

I saw Jeremy Laidler yesterday and asked him, "Jeremy, what will be our strategy against Casey?" and he said something like "get the 4 points", to which I replied, "I hope you come up with something a bit more sophisticated than that!" He didn't crack much of a smile. Does he even realise the home and away season is over and there are no 4 points on offer, only a place in the prelim?? Of course he didn't know who the hell was and no point in giving anything away days before the game. I probably would just have reported it here.

None of those played against the Saints last week will be playing except Wicks who just played as the Sub. Taylor is still not selected without explanation. Meanwhile, a squad of 40 players that is in contention for selection for the 2022 VFL Team of the Year has been announced and that includes 3 from the Swans : TAYLOR, Gould and Amartey. BTW, Maibaum, a former Swans has been named too.

I was sorry we let Maibaum go, though understood the reasons. Injuries at the wrong time cruelled his chance of proving himself worthy of an AFL career.

Good thing Melican is back. Casey are stacked with tall forwards with the returning Tom McDonald joining Mitch Brown, Weideman, and Jacob Van Rooyen. Although they have dropped their ruckman and didn’t bring in Jake Spencer so Weideman will ruck.

What about our team! We have Sinclair, Ladhams and McAndrew as well as Amartey and McLean. Apart from Taylor being out that would be the best team we could possibly have fielded? A shame Taylor won't be playing, he plays well in the 2's. It would be nice if Melbourne fans came out to cheer them on.

Odd that Taylor is in contention for the team of the year yet is out without explanation :

If he makes the team of the year, will he attend the presentation?

Has anyone seen him at training lately?

Not quite. Taylor is our best VFL player (won the prize at our end of season awards last year, been nominated for this year's VFL best 22). Plus Sheather and COR remain injured and unavailable (without even counting Naismith). And last, but definitely not least, we would have been bolstered by JPK playing. Still, I'm not complaining. We're doing very well on the injury front and there aren't many missing.

Looking at the stats for their only loss of the season (last week against the Lions), they lost the hitouts 48-23. And while I can't find any clearance numbers, both Robinson and Robertson had big games. So, it's probably a fair guess that Brisbane did pretty well at the stoppages. Hopefully our rotation of Ladhams, Sinclair and McAndrew, can exploit their lack of a genuine ruck, and give Sheldrick, Roberts, Bell, etc, plenty of clean ball.

Having said that, with those ruckmen rotating through a forward line that also contains Amartey and McLean, we do look a bit top heavy. So, it looks like we'll need big games from Wicks, Ronke and Morrison: both in mopping up crumbs, and perhaps more importantly, restricting the rebound out of the Demons defence.
