Was that a clever Don Pike strategy, to get Buddy to move May out of the marking zone. Savvy eh.

May was brilliant and is an AA for good reason, but I don’t recall seeing Buddy really stretch out at top pace. Be keen to see what those at the ground thought and if there was any truth to the pre-match chatter about his fitness.

It was nice seeing Rowy be given the channel 7 players prize by his uncle Brian - he played a blinder.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Most of the better teams, Melbourne, Geelong, Collingwood, Freo, all are near impenetrable in the air. It doesn't pay to kick long to a contest in the forward line. There's little payoff. All the forwards have to rotate up the ground, and the ones being guarded by key interceptors, like Lever, May, Stewart, Moore and Howe have to drag them to nowhereland, well away from the main action. You have to take what they give you and not play into the strengths of these defences.

It's not easy being a key forward against this kind of defence. The forward targets need to spread around. This favours a team like Sydney, but not a player like Buddy, at least not a bag of goals kicking Buddy.

I don’t watch 7 so I didn’t know that he received this well deserved prize. I am so rapt for him especially after the treatment he had previously received on this forum and this has been justification for all of the posters who stood up for him.

              ‘drag them to nowhereland’
              nice turn of phrase.
Did May get what was going on? And the milking frees Buddy got were laughable but they got paid .

Then again we did win so maybe it was part of the plan all along
Buddy has been well held for long periods of games previously but then been able to have a 5-10 min period where he kicks 2- 3 goals. I understand not wanting to move him. That said, He was not likely to get on top of May the other night so it was the right move.

I vaguely remember Clarkson using Bud a bit more as a decoy in their 2013 season?

True. It is also the fact that teams as well drilled as these also play the key forward differently depending on where they are placed on the ground. I am not sure if May would have followed Buddy if he had decided to go high up for example. Coz he could have been able to peel off and then intercept at the back. So it is about adapting quickly to what the opposition is doing and working towards the best scenario. May is exceptional but others not as much. So Buddy May still be able to kick goals on Fremantle, Collingwood and Geelong.

Logue was really effective against Buddy last time (with a log of infringements not called) and Pearce is very good as a tall defender too.

Against Pies he will likely have Darcy Moore on him.

Buddy just has to play his role, if he kicks 2-3 great, but it is the team score that counts most in the end.

I thought he was inside the protected zone and it should have been 50, but that’s a separate issue.
It absolutely should have been fifty.....the umpires seem to revel in curbing Buddy's brilliance sometimes.

Brilliant to see last years 'fringe players' Fox and Reid play so well and get us over the line. Love them both.

Buddy yet again struggled in a final for us. Will be very interesting to see how he performs in the PF and potentially GF.
He was close to our best player in both 2014 and 2016. Easy to forget that when we lost both times.

He played well in 2014 but he was just Ok in 2016 from my memory.

Correct, hurt his ankle could barely run at least in first half. And as a result Buddy had little impact in 2016 GF. Huge setback as he had been in top form in the lead-in finals matches.

Good to see some love for Robbie Fox across the media today. Nice article in the SMH and named in the Tackle by Robbo.
