It is tough on Logan, but he hasn't been in good form for weeks. He has to expect that there's only so long he can stay in the senior side without producing much. McLean has been a bit better than Amartey in the last couple of weeks of the VFL season and also has a better tank, which was probably the reason he was chosen over Amartey.

My feeling is that Reid will play if he doesn't break down between now and Saturday.

Great opportunity for Hayden, but gutted for Logan- I hope they have some good welfare folks supporting him. I'm sure the change is related to uncertainty around Sam's ability to run out the game and wouldn't be surprised with a late change.

We have Logan contracted for 2 more years, I must admit I did wonder that depending on how this all plays out it is the sort of thing that would lead someone to want away from a club (which obviously shouldn't dictate team selection for a Grand Final).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I'm also interested to see that Armetey is not named as an emergency, so if Reid is withdrawn then it will be McLean and Logan in.

Sad for Logan, who’ll be a superb player long term and hopefully if Reid doesn’t come up, he’s back in.

Out of interest, ressie watchers: how’s he been going?

Yes, rough for McDonald. But then only 6 touches last week, 4 against Melbourne. Averaging 8 over his last five games.
            He's been pretty quiet.

As much as I feel for Logan (who will have many more good years ahead of him), I think this is the best move by the coaching staff. They will be relying on Hayden to compete really well in the air and at least bring it to ground. If Sam does not complete the game, then McLean will be a pretty serviceable back up for the ruck. This means that we will go in with Reid for the GF (though the coaching staff may not be confident that he will get through the game - hence McLean as the back-up)

Having said this, Logan has competed pretty well, so absolutely gutted for him on a personal level. Hope this does not mean that he flies home after this contract

I’m a bit confused by the McLean selection (I assume he is actually replacing Reid - I’d be staggered if Sam plays). Is McLean really going to play the support ruck role. Surely, Amartey is a better option in that regard.

If Reid does play, then it is an awful outcome for Logan McDonald - and it would be a big risk playing a tall as the sub. I’m a bit perplexed by the strategy with these changes.

I think you could easily play Logan as Sub because he is incredibly mobile

Yayy Horse had read my post obviously and hooked McDonald off.

I am sure the feedback to Logan by the coaching staff has been consistent through the last few weeks and that this drop is not a bombshell for him. He has played in lots of games this year which is what he should be expecting but in the finals when the pressure has gone up, he has not coped. Bigger body McLean will certainly help in bringing the ball to the ground and even though he is not a good ground player, he is good enough to create a three pronged ruck combo to negate the ruck defence role that Rhys Stanley does for cats. Hopefully he clunks a couple in the first quarter and then cats can’t ignore him and it creates havoc in their backline.

Mclean played in our win v cats during the season I think. Cats defence has a lot of high marks.

100%, would not be news for him.

I suspect they will park McLean in the square and give Geelong another tall to worry about.

We've gotten this far with Logan, so he should've stayed in.

Fully expect him to be a late replacement for Reid anyway, with Campbell sub again.
