If Reid does not make it McLean can do some ruck work. I don't believe Mcdonald is up to doing ruck work as yet.

Amartey, McDonald and McLean have all had fair seasons without anyone truly standing out. They've all had good runs of games in the VFL, but none has been able to bring that form to AFL level. I don't think playing behind Buddy and Reid has helped. The senior selection for all 3 has been difficult. A case can be made for any of them to be playing in the GF.

If there's anyone to feel sorry for it's Harry Cunningham, who just got injured at the wrong time and hasn't been able to find his way back into the senior side.

I think he is the best option for the sub role.

I feel sorry for anyone who has been a part of the team throughout the season and fails to be a "premiership player" if a team wins.

I reckon McLean will ruck in the forward line saving Hickey for around the ground and defence.

Wouldn’t we be disappointed if lose badly and he doesn’t play well and for not replacing him given his form. I reckon leave it to the coaches, they know what they are doing and have strong reasons based on the style we won’t to play. If Buddy is ready to crash and ash packs and McLean ready to clunk marks. We may get a lot of goals on the ground.

I reckon everyone who has been part of the team in the year should be made premiership player. You don’t win it in one week !

My concern is if Reid doesn't come up, McLean is not as good a ruck support for Hickey. My vote would have been Amartey as he has been in cracking form in the VFL and made the VFL Team of the Year. Amartey better around the ground and more mobile than McLean. I'm still sad that Logan has been dropped as he has a red hot go but he has a big future for us. But will still hurt being dropped for GF.

This will be a Grand Final between two of the best sides this century.

Sydney: 18 finals appearances in 22 years.
Geelong: 17 finals appearances in 22 years.

No other side has played in more finals series after 2000.

Geelong has won their last 15 games. Sydney has won their last nine. No other Grand Final has had two sides on such long winning streaks. The AFL has a detailed article on this: A Grand Final like no other: Red-hot Cats, Swans in rare clash

This is Horse at his conservative worst.

McLean is slow and Reid will break down.

Trust the youth not old players, that’s what got us here.

I don't like the dropping of Logan, but I can understand why they did it. If either Reid or hickey get injured we have no backup. The pies game exposed that

I figure that Reid will likely play, but not participate in stoppages. We chose McLean over Amartey for that role mainly because McLean is capable of playing more minutes than Amartey. That's important in a high intensity game like a GF. It must have been a close call.

Reid will have a much better chance of getting through the game if he doesn't have to ruck. If that's the case, then replacing McDonald with someone who can help out in the ruck makes sense.

That’s exactly what I thought. Reid negates the Cats defensive ruckman. And McLean rucks around the ground except in forward half where Reid or Hickey go up. It maybe conservative decision but the one that needs to be made for team balance and roles.

I think you've nailed the reason for McLean. He can ruck and take the pressure off Reid and reduce the chances of him breaking down.Has elite endurance which is an advantage in a GF. Horse also loves his competitive nature.
