2022 AFL National Draft and Rookie Draft 28 & 29 November 2022
A bit of a public slap to Armetey there by Beatson: "but he's got to start performing". Obvious frustration there but also recognising the adverse impact of injuries.
An even bigger slap to McLean?
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)
questions from Riley and Cal to KB recently were basically saying you are at the pointy end of challenging for a GF
on that basis how do you ensure depth in the ruck when Sinclair and Naismith have moved on ............... and or Forwards closer to retirement like Bud
KB did allude to that they may have to use the de listed bucket for ruck.........depending on what happened in the draft as he isolated only one ruck in the draft maybe capable of Snrs
If we want to trade up into two picks for one ie a 14 / 17 for a 10 if possible..............you would have to think we are not just wanting a future snr 10 year player but also a player that can impact our best 22 through out 2023 and help our cause for a GF win ??

I believe KB said that anyone we draft tonight as an 18 year old is unlikely to make a substantial difference next year.
I think they’ll draft players for the long term and try and plug any short term holes by other means
We all like to think we're knowledgeable draft watchers but reality is we'd be dreadful at it. We don't know the big picture strategy that spans several years and we may already be talking to potential future FA. We make assessments of potential draftees based on a two minute highlights package.
Kinnear and Simon are such good operators. I love them. On one hand, they don't give anything away in terms of the players we will select. In fact, they have admitted that they even put out decoys by interviewing players that they are not interested in. On the other hand, they are quite honest when talking about a draft class in general. I believe them when they say that the tall players are not great this year. I also believe them when they say that they are willing to trade 14 & 17 either up or down.
I really have no idea what we will do but I think it will be very interesting.
My best guess is that we trade 14 & 17 for 10 & 29. We grab Ed Allen at 10. A slider gets to 29 (possibly Barnett) and we take Jed Hagan at 42. We take a tall as a rookie.
One observation from KB's interview that I found fascinating was the eternal mirage of "next year's talls". He made the point it is a regular feature of every future draft that it's going to be stocked with elite KPP talent, and over the 12 months of hardened scrutiny and competition, it inevitably falls away a bit. I think both Lemmey (sp?) and Scully were touted as top 10 going into this year. I remember a few years back coming into his draft year Ballenden (sp?) the Brisbane academy pick was seen as a clear no1, then got drafted in the 40s, and has now been delisted. Which fits the theory that finding a KPF for now may come from alternative routes other than the draft.
For a bloke rated so highly before the season, Lemmey has had a dreadful year but there are some mitigating circumstances. Could be a big reward/bust selection, someone might get a steal
I wonder if we've got a KPF lined up for trade or FA next year? We don't know, although Ludwig may know?

I doubt that the other party will agree to this deal but I'm happy if they do!

To be fair, my best guess is only slightly better than getting the world cup octopus having a go.
