If we continue to rely on Buddy as the key in our forward line, we are just going to have to hit the restart button next year. I'd prefer to start now.Comment

I partly agree with your vision for development
I also think it is equally true that if we don't have Buddy and say Heeney got injured for the season we would be screwed
It was almost impossible to find externally another 50 goals if Bud went in 2023
The probability of another 50 goals coming internally is a big if an maybe
I think in short for me it is risk management for 2023 given we are officially in our window via achieving a GF spot in 2022
I really can't see the downside of Bud being in our squad for 2023
If he is cooked he won't play
If we have major injuries he is a very very worthy inclusion
Could his absence be the difference to success or not ...
Yes my word."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Foxsports today
"Young halfback Braeden Campbell, who was the medi-sub in the grand final, and 209cm rugby union convert Lachlan McAndrew were named as two players Longmire could see breaking into the senior side in the early stages of the season."

It's not about who is the better player, nor about how much Buddy helps the development of players by example and instruction. We simply have to get used to playing a game style that works without Buddy, because he won't be there next year. I think the sooner we get on with the process, the better off we'll be.

It doesn't have to be so cut a dry. I think Bud can still play without impeding anyone's development. It will require him to change his mindset. His role could be more distraction, support and setting up plays rather than being the go-to star. I wonder if his ego would allow it?Comment

So are we suggesting now that Buddy become a “role” player? If so that would solve this conundrum. If Hoese is able to come up with a plan that includes “Buddy, you play within these limits” he may very well be able to come in and out if the team without disrupting development."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

I don't think having our 2 top key forwards both over 30 is good for the Swans. We probably are not good enough to win a premiership this year, although I'm not writing us off. Just being realistic comparing our side to the competition.
A key to success is to bring a whole group together at the same time. Buddy significantly changes the way we play the game. The key forwards working in concert is one of the hardest things to get right. I would have been happy to the Buddy/Reid duo a couple of years ago, but I think we will be better off getting Logan into the #1 KPF slot and roll that into the future. After that, we won't have many big changes to the side for some time to come.
I think it's too hard for a young side to adjust to playing 2 styles of game, one with Buddy in the side and one without. If we were Geelong, I would be less concerned about this. Buddy as the 23rd man is a good idea, because it forces the other side to adjust to a different style, so it could be a good move if the opposition have us covered in the first half. We can change things up and hope for a momentum change in our favour,, if we are down going into the 2nd half.Comment

Is it just me, or are you contradicting yourself. You say "it's too hard for a young side [presumably us] to adjust to playing 2 styles of game, one with Buddy in the side and one without" and then in the next breath say we should start games without him and then bring him on thereby "forcing the other side to adjust to a different style" [and presumably us too].
I imagine you will most likely retort: of course I should be expecting you to contradict yourself; that's the way the Ludwig show rolls. All opinions are not equal.
