How about we find someone that can kick straight, and try not to stuff up his radar as we seem to have with Wayward Hayward's.

The impact Jake Lever has in cutting off entries is mesmerising and so hard to break when the opposition is under pressure and wildly tonking it forward.

We wanted to keep our cut off loose defender in Dawso.

We haven't replaced yet unless out Bomber becomes that player?

I mean without Lever and May the Dee's are an average top 8 team aren't they?

They were massively targeted by Melb.

I wonder if we can't land a 50 plus goal kicking forward that our PlanB is an intercept defender like a Lever?
Last season it looked like we had the need for an intercept defender well covered with PaddyMac, but so far that's just not happening this year - any theories on why? Anyone?

Last year Naughton kicked 51 goals and 34 behinds. Hayward was 34.22. Be careful of recency bias.

Bias noted AB, 60% is about as good as it get's in the AFL.

For me RR what I saw by Melb was keeping possession and shorter angled kicks our defensive 50m.....ie to stay away from the Macs but the game was on their terms and they have some zip zip to make this happen.

Ie they didn't have to bomb much at us because we couldn't lock them in well enough in their defensive arc. The Dee's didn't need to kick long out of desperation to clear the ball.

But when we just cleared it under pressure Lever and May lapped it up.

Afl.com.au reports: Inside Trading: Sun Ned Moyle in demand, Tiger Noah Balta set to re-sign, Dog Arthur Jones' new deal (afl.com.au)

"THIS year's mid-season rookie draft is set to be staged between rounds 11 and 12.
Clubs have been told that the AFL is expected to stage the mid-season intake in the week leading up to round 12, with selections set to be made on Wednesday, May 31."

Is it possible our recruitment team got it partly wrong for 2023?

We opted for Roberts, Sheldrick, Konstanty, Vickery last two drafts? These players would not feature in the Pies, Cats nor Bears teams in 2023 vs the players they traded in who are all playing right now. Contributing right now to their top4 GF aspirations.

Also $700k not appropriately allocated for 2023? This is significant amount of money !!!

Was there a serious opportunity cost?

I haven't seen so much anger on the forum after a footy game. Alot of frustration at players after the Port loss?

For me no Jonas and no AA would have had Port losing by minimum 6 goals. The loss of our key tall defenders minimised our ability to control the game. Impossible almost. One kick in it was remarkable.

Has our 20233 strategy of not trading in another 40 to 50 goal forward weakened our opportunity for another GF chance in 2023?

The Cats and Pies and Bears went into hyperdrive for their window 2023 recruitment.

We are also in a window which is so hard to achieve and should always be tweaked to maximise probability of success which others have done admirably.

Can you explain this part for me?

                    Hi AB
When I read through the comments after the game the vast majority on this forum complained that Bud is still in the line up.

Most reports in the media alluded to the contract for Bud in 2023 is in the vicinity of $700k. Some salary cap and some other bonified remuneration?

Therefore has our recruitment strategy failed in keeping Bud, paying him approx $700k and not using this money towards a traded in player like some of the other teams that are in a window?

For me personally I think it is way to early to criticise our recruitment strategy regarding keeping Bud and paying alot of dollars to do so.

In my humble opinion if both Macs stayed on the field last night we would have won and quite possibly Bud would kick 3 goals minimum ie the average per game of his career.

I don't think Amartey would have kicked 3 or 4 who many have been worried is stifled by Bud remaining in our forward line.

I can't see Budd achieving his career average on many occasions this season, despite having the majority of forward 50 entries directed towards him.
Buddy in 2022 has a lot of parrallels with Plugger in 1999 - including declining performaces and a ground invasion.
Unfortunately Buddy of 2022 seems more than a whiff of Plugger 2002.

The swans losing a young gun (Dawson) then making the grand final to only be thrashed.... Has a lot of similarities to Adelaide when they lost Dangerfield.
Let's hope it doesn't play out like that.

Potentially our biggest worry re list management are the McCartin boys. Paddy's future must be in serious doubt and Tom has had serious concussion issues not that long ago. If both had to retire, it would be a massive blow. Tom plays too fearlessly at times and another couple of knocks are on the cards. Hope I'm wrong.

Please refresh my memory as I’m not sure when Tom was last concussed?
Unfortunately head injuries are now the most serious in our game and the AFL needs to send a very strong message to players but in a contact sport it always remains a possibility. Can wearing a helmet help to mitigate serious injury?

There was a bit of a scare around him a few years ago (can't remember exactly when - it was towards the start of a season) when the doctors thought there might be an issue in his neck - some kind of structural issue. Then they decided he had been born with the "condition", rather than it being the result of footy impact, and it wasn't considered to pose a concern with his wellbeing.
