McLean is good at a lot of parts of the game, but hes' not quick nor good with the ball on the ground. I think a KPP can do well enough with these characteristics as a lock down tall defender, because the main job is to compete well in the air. I'm not sure if he will make it, but it's worth a try, as we might go into next season with only 2 KPPs who are capable and not injury prone, TMac and LMac. Al the others are either injured or may not be up to the level, including Gould and Francis. So we are in a pretty deep hole going forward and will need to be imaginative.

I just cant see big H nearly mobile enough as a key defender against the best tall forwards in the comp
id be sending your 190cm type mobile forwards to him the whole when away from the goals........just isolate him and burn him
his lateral movement when pulled forward with a leading FF would simply have to be a hand over every time which is so tricky to manage"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I wonder whether we're one of the clubs 'monitoring' Grainger-Barras.With the advent of a Tasmanian team I would be looking to find some Academy boys who can make the grade. The more local talent we can get the better, which hopefully results in a resounding NO to going to Tassie. I think both Cleary and Kirk are looking good for this coming end of season draft. Even if they go on the Rookie list. We need to start drafting some defenders also.

Time to give it away and for us to move on. Unfortunate but not surprising.Comment

I'll be surprised if he is retained. I love Sam like all our players, but particularly flag winners, and we saw last year how consequential his best is.
But we need to develop the next generation of KPPs to align with the growth of our other young talent, and sadly, Sam's not part of that in my view.

Really disappointing for Sam and just continues his run of, one year on, one year off, that's plagued his career.
When he's on, he's an extremely important piece to our side (see 2012!), but unfortunately it's the years 'off' when we need him that many will remember that has tarnished a solid career...

One good thing about Reid being out is that we will have a mid season draft pick. Surely there are some KPDs that could help us out. When I see how well Callum Wilkie is going, I have to think there are players out there, but our guys have got to find them.Comment
