My original post re Barass was based on the premise that he was sick of being on the wrong side of 100 (and even 200) point drubbings (nws the razzle dazzle appeal of Perth social life). But in any event, I imagine Brodie Grundy and his partner thought they held all the cards going into year 3 of a 7 year deal, but that's not how things played out.

Riley hasn't exactly come with the gold in that article. Apparently the Swans are interested in Harry Himmelberg.

Watch how he runs into goal on a set shot, he almost wobbles at the beginning. I’m guessing he has some kind of foot or ankle injury

Re Heeney ; this year he is averaging 16 touches a game, which is okay. He has kicked 15 goals in 14 games.
Last year he kicked 49 in 25 games which is excellent. I often think with Isaac we were expecting him to be a superstar, but he
just turned out to be a pretty good footballer. So the bar has been set high. If he is injured then obviously the coaches have
decided an injured Heeney is better than an uninjured replacement. It would be great if he was as good as Toby Greene (who
Isaac has a similar role/position to) but it's just not going to happen.

Good point KTigers. A lot of players seem to have their 'skill level's locked in by the public very early in their career, and no amount of actual data can change it.
Jaeger omera is another classic example. In reality he is an average midfielder.

I think Heeney has poor kicking technique at sey shots. He seems to drop the ball outside his foot and loses power and accuracy. And probably over corrects on other occasions. Same Reid does the same. He should take some lessons from Braeden Campbell who drops the ball perfectly straight.

All very good points on kicking. The other thing I have noticed is some players stray off line when running into kick, probably to gain more distance, and invariably the kick goes in the direction of the line they are taking. Buddy is the exception to the rule on this one.

Do we have a goal kicking coach? We had Plugger for a while- any chance of him coming back?
We do need major improvements as we’ve been missing many gettable shots. Wilbur being a major offender in my book. Isaac has been playing injured- I think his ankle issue from last year- and this is affecting his kicking for goal. He is able to play carrying an injury, unlike most, but of course it is a factor. He really should be rested but we can’t afford to do that at this stage. Once we’re out of the running he needs to be given the chance for a full recovery and we bring in Hugo or another youngster.

Sometimes I think when players stray offline it's almost like a subconscious thing to try and replicate their field kicking (which
is the large bulk of the kicking they do and is almost never done when they are running in an arrow straight line). The difference
there is their target is always moving and if the target runs a bit harder they can compensate for some of the deficiencies in the kick.
Also obviously players taking a set shot at goal have up to 30 seconds to think about their kick instead of one or two seconds
in general play. Plugger once said he "emptied his mind" when taking set shots and that helped.

Heeney kicked 49 goals 28 behinds (11 no scores) last year @55.38% which was fourth behind McLean (68.75%), Gulden (62.07%), and Franklin (55.91%) for Swans with at least 10 shots. The year before that he kicked 36.21 (no access to no scores) so he is traditionally an accurate shot at goal.

Really the only difference to date (Round 16) with last year is Heeney is averaging one goal per game instead of two.
Keep in mind we are 6.5-and-8.5 this year whereas last year we were 9-and-6 after Round 16, so he's not alone.

I was looking at the players who missed very easy shots. They had two problems. One they dropped the ball badly which causes the second problem, leg swing. That comes about because the ball drop is bad and the try to compensate

You work thru technique when guys are in their first year, when guys have years under their belt its mental.

Would be a tough watch going over that vision, nothing worse than a midfield and defence moving the ball well for a fwd line to destroy all momentum.

Hard to shake it off as a bad day at the office when its been a regular occurrence this year too

It's lack of concentration. Heeney & Hickey used to both be very precise. I think someone is stuffing around with their ball hold. The way that players prefer to hold the ball is generally accepted as ok if their goal kicking is good. But if it isn't then generally there is a reason and then ball hold, ball drop (affected by ball hold), and kicking straight through the ball are important. I would rather a player faulted and readjusted than kick at a wayward ball drop.

Don't believe players have got routine down pat by the time they get to this level. McKay and King are good examples of players who got the tops because their routine was changed. Changing routines takes all balance away from a player who's routine was good
