It's hard to know if Gould has the tank or not. It's difficult to know if a player looks tired because they've worked hard or they've run out of gas.

What you say about Gould's kicking is true. He is a good kick. It's a lack of concentration that gets him into trouble with miskicks. I don't know if this is correctable. Perhaps not, since it's going on for 4 years.

I don't understand why we played Gould in the forward line in the 1st quarter, where he kicked a goal, then moved him back to defence. It's as if we don't really want to see if Gould can make it in another position. It's an indication that we probably have given up on him.

Can't see Gould on list after this season.

He's average? Because he only makes AA on average every couple of years? Seriously...

Yeh, what would we need with a high quality KPD hey?

The high quality KPD I would prefer would be Harry Himmelberg but would be happy with Barrass provided he didn't cost us a lot of currency.

Harass is a class above Himmelberg

Yes, he is - particularly for the price. He was terrific at his peak, but he’s slowed considerably. His game was built on impact at the contest and impact in general play. Not anymore.

To help you compare the pair, here’s him v Ladhams this year

Brodie Grundy and Peter Ladhams AFL Stats Comparison

Ladhams is cheaper, better and younger.

Or another example. Here is against an average, young ruckman in the worst team in the comp - Bailey Williams. It ain’t great.

I’m not quite in the Ludwig school of all rucks are crap and worthless, but we shouldn’t over invest in them. Between Ladhams, McAndrew’s continued improvement, Caleb May being a prospect, hopefully a decent preseason for Hickey, and McLean and Amartey as second ruck . . . . We’ve more than got an investment in rucks

Hickey is done, guys in their 30s dont get helped by preseasons, he is cooked.

I rate Ladhams as the number 1, McAndrew as the development

                  Rucks Next year
                  Hickey gone
Mclean uncontracted, wont break the bank but will have other offers

Without Bud, Amartey is a fwd with Logan

Id take Ladhams and a low priced Grundy.

Michael Gleeson flagging us as a potential Grundy destination. Not clear it's any more than speculation.

I'd be interested at the right price.

Speculation, though would be a great get at the right price.

There are no more experienced players than West coast defenders. The ball loves in there.

to trade for one or the other of these KP players perhaps we will have another 2nd round draft pick assuming we can get that much for Dylan Stephens

While the Magpies retained De Goey, they lost Grundy to Melbourne, which picked up the majority of the final five years of Grundy's lucrative seven-year contract. The Magpies will reportedly pay part of Grundy's contract, which is worth around $900,000 per season.

Collingwood received pick 27 in the upcoming 2022 AFL National Draft in exchange for Grundy.

                            ………..

If Melbourne were open to it I would consider it.

Grundy turns 30yrs old next season
He has a remaining 4 years under contract.
Probably not at $900k pa because the Pies portion is probably best guess $200k pa?
Say $700k pa net with a sliding down salary in the last couple years due to age and risk.

So let’s say it is the following and if so that could work:

                            2024 -30yrs old - $700k pa net
                            2025 - 31yrs old - $700k pa net
                            2026 - 32yrs old - $700k pa net
                            2027 - 33yrs old - $500k pa net

For our mids to have a Grundy and Ladhams rotation would solve a few challenges.

The development of Ladhams would sky rocket versus Grundy day in day out at training. Along with young Stretch speeding up his development against Grundy at training week in week out.

Our tap ruck work clearances would go to a whole new level.

Pete having a little time up front would help take some pressure off our emerging tall forwards. Pete playing a target role who can kick ok.

What are our alternatives for a dominant ruck to help with our problems around the clearance ?

If we let go of Bud, Hickey, Reid and PMac retires that is 4 significant talls to replace

If we trade in Barass and Grundy at fair trades

Ie maybe let go of pick 5 for Barass in exchange for a late first round pick

Grundy an equivalent to the pies who gave up pick 27

Plus we picked up Arnold and Bullet mid season that is technically 4 talls for 4 talls but not a like for like.

Plus we would still have two late first round picks minimum for drafting.

Love to hear a few other scenarios on helping our team achieve success in this immediate 2024/25 window.

Just thinking even a little wider and more in alignment with a winning top4 team for 2024/25

                                If we loose:
                                Bud
                                Reid
                                Hickey
                                PMac

Could we actually gain talls right through the centre of our team KPF, Ruck and KPD

                                Ie

Grundy for a 2nd draft pick we already have and maybe make it closer to pick 27 they gave up the year before for Grundy?

Then split our pick5 into maybe a pick 12 and Pick 18? It is possible but not likely.

                                Barass for pick 12?

Harry Himmelberg for pick 18 and a future second round pick?

Financially I suspect we can afford the 3 in for the 4 lost given the discount net price on Grundy $700k pa and I suspect Barass on approx $650k pa max and Himmelberg on $700k pa ?
