    Are KPP potentially worthy considering

The other one I wondered about was Sam Flanders as another inside mid?

But at Errol's current age, there's no comparison https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/...&fid1=O&fid2=O
Is it just the effect of the Academy?

Just for fun, some comparisons with recent rovers

We need to be going all out for Brodie Grundy. Get it done with a 2nd rounder.

I'm disappointed about HH. The 6 year offer looks pretty good. It's hard to get good KPPs to move teams. They're in big demand ad we aren't the only ones looking to add to our list.

This just adds to my frustration and dismay about how we've handled this list weakness over the past few years, starting with the loss of Aliir and continuing with overlooking KPPs in the past 2 national drafts.

I now think we should shift to another strategy which I've previously mentioned, which has these components:
            1. Stop gap measures. Keep Reid and Melican, despite high injury risk.
            2. Train one of our KPFs to play in defence.
            3. Look to add a lesser known KPD who is not getting games at present club, in this trade period
            4. Focus our current draft on getting a couple of KPPs. With our current picks, we can get 2 good KPP prospects plus Cleary. A lot of the best KPDs have come from the second round in past drafts.

One hopeful note is that many solid KPDs have come from outside the top draft prospects.

We just have to be honest about our current situation. We need to get a bit lucky the next couple of years on the injury front until we can solidify our key defence. We shouldn't get distracted about imaginary needs in other areas. The rest of our game is solid enough. We have a young squad and a few good prospects developing in the VFL.

I should add that after seeing the lengthy development path of Jack Buckley, I've become more positive on Will Edwards. He does some nice things, especially with his marking, and his athleticism is good for a big man. If he learns to play the position better, he could become a solid player. Only time will tell.

Amartey did some good defensive work against the Docker when dropping back from the ruck. He could go well as a key defender.
              Where's the remote?

No,no,no,no and No. Georgiades is a very flaky footballer. Can take a mark and that's about it. Zerk-Thatcher is as loose as granny's teeth and in close to the worst backline in the past few years.

It’s going to be interesting because we as supporters are scratching around the bins a little to find a good solution for potentially 3 key spots

                  KPD
                  Ruckman
                  Key forward

That would be a big shame if not solved due to the rest of the squad ready to roar

It can be done but you have to give to get sometimes when on the window roller coaster

This is what I mean about losing focus. We really need KPDs.

We already have 4 ruckmen and most of our key forwards can also play in the ruck. If anything, we need to drop a couple.

We have 4 capable key forwards in Logan, Joel, McLean and Buller. Due to our strength in the medium and small forward positions, we only need to play 2 KPFs. So this looks to be a good group. We may be able to train up on of them as a KPD. At present, I like the Logan/Joel duo up forward, but I can see other combos as well, with Logan being the anchor.

I am still not sure about about Harry Arnold and will wait to see howhe goes the rest of the season. I am not too keen on Francis, except as a depth player. He doesn't have the size or speed to handle that key defender role.

For sure. We want our players to stay loyal, so you have to respect it when players at other clubs are wanted there and
they stay despite interest from elsewhere. Good for him.

Not too comfortable approaching a WA club about contracted players considering we have about 6 of the 10 most desired WA kids.... could backfire down the track

I don’t think key forward is an issue. Last year the McCartin brothers were a formidable duo in defence, but we all knew Paddy was walking on eggshells. I reckon one good defender is the missing piece, whilst given our current ruck situation that might just sort itself out. The club’s been very good in targeting needs in the past. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t have a plan in mind.

I’m super confident there is a plan

Super confident that they knew paddy was never far away if another concussion….so scenario player planning would be ready to execute coming into 2024

I just think we have had a few bumps with Hickey, Paddy and Buddy that maybe hard to trade to replace without giving up a bit to stay on track for a top4 type team

2 out of the 3 could have been playing in 2024 and if playing string that had us on a competitive path.

With all 3 not really available (most likely) in 2024 we are in a pickle and need give to get.

We all know how hard it is to shake a GF down if you are not in the top 4

The top4 indicates you are to take on a GF and fight for it.

We have so much of the squad ready for that.

I wouldn't be too confident in a plan that included a 32 yo injury prone ruckman, a key defender one head knock away from retirement and a great forward on his last legs.

It's poor planning if the plan is to recruit a specific player more than a year out. It was poor planning to let Aliir go with an injury prone defensive unit. We tried to compensate for this by the recruitment of Francis and drafting Arnold. I wouldn't call these great solutions.

My biggest concern is Tom McCartin, who I rate as an excellent defender. That he might also be one head knock away from retirement is a real worry. I hope Rampe can hang in there another 2 years, but he too is starting to rack up injuries common to players in his age group.

We will get to see a GWS team that did a great job in planning for the loss of a load of defenders to injury and recruitment by other clubs. They didn't wait until Phil Davis was on his last legs.

We are on a knife edge of top4 or outside the 8 again for 2024 which would very very disappointing given our push to double up the other areas of our squad.
