I think you need to look at this and put it into perspective.
Tom Harley is the CEO, and while he has a say in it he will be largely guided by the football department and their perceived needs.
The facts are that the Franklin contract placed the club on the edge of the salary cap for its duration. I might add that it proved to be a hugely successful investment.
Tom Harley stated at the end of last season the priority was to secure the obvious young talent for the long term and that all the end of this year the club would be a player in the free agency/trade market, and clearly this is still the intention. What he and the club did not anticipate was the horrendous injury run that clearly affected player confidence, particularly with the younger players.
The pleasing thing from my perspective is that the younger players have regrouped and while it’s likely we will miss the finals this year the underlying talent base is still intact.
We now need to address some of the obvious weaknesses in the trade period to address this.
The club is well managed from the top down including the coaching and recruiting staff. Stability is a key factor in success, and this is one of the key reasons the Swans have been successful for over 20 years

We defo need a key defender as Ramps has only 1-2 years left and the Pelican is unfortunately injury prone. At this stage Arnold is unproven but has the build to be depth. I’m not sure if Barrass really wants to come to us- is there anyone else now that HH is locked away?

McLean not re-signed yet as far as I know. Others probably after him, especially lately.

I hope its soon especially after Saturday night's performance. I hear Richmond have showed interest.

Watched JL press conference and he was asked about McLean's contract status. He intimated that he was very keen for him to stay. Seemed relaxed about the conversation. Hope he stays.

from in the post game press conference JL talked about McLean and how they just wanted fast track him this year by playing every week.

I am guessing they see Hamish play the Sam Reid role of 2022 not only this season but for years ahead.

That rotation seemed to work very for us in 2022 with Sam playing 50/50 ruck forward.

Also of interest was the good rap he gave for Jack Buller.

I have a bit of inside info from senior management at the club. I have been reliably informed that we now have a lot of salary cap room and are going to look to be extremely active this off season. The club recognises that we have a lack of depth and are keen to bring in some more good players. They think that Paddy is almost certain to retire (or be forced to retire) and we are heavily targeting Tom Barrass, who is apparently keen to come to the club. They are also keen on a big bodied mid, although wouldn't disclose specific players they are looking at, possibility for further additions too but that is yet to be fully worked through.

                          Hi Isibidbi,
If you garner more info from senior management please share it with us. I also notice that you have averaged 3 posts per year but please add to your total.
                          Cheers.

Access to senior management figures is a recently acquired luxury, I will be sure to pass on anything I am able to pick up

I don't understand this talk about big-bodied midfielders. Our list management team spoke about adding midfield depth in 2021. So we drafted Sheldrick, Roberts in 2021 and Caleb Mitchell last year. I don't know if any of these would satisfy the term big-bodied; certainly Sheldrick would classify as wide-bodied. Foregone were the additions of any KPPs in the ND for 2 years running, which left a hole in our defence this year.

This big-bodied midfielder will have to be pretty big, quick ane skillful, because it's not clear to me who gets killed out of our midfield when he comes in. Nor is it clear to me what the destinies will be for Sheldrick, Roberts, Corey Warner and HHK, who have all shown enough to project a future at AFL level.

I also suppose we will add Cleary to our list this draft.

4 of the top 10 contested ball winners are shorter than 180 cm. We all lament not taking the small bodied 7th highest contested ball winner Caleb Serong instead of Stephens in the draft.

The body size seems to have less to do with winning the ball than other factors, which we can mull over for a while as to what that is.

If we are still looking for a big-bodied midfielder, one has to wonder what we were doing the past 2 drafts.

As for me, I'm stuck on finding key defenders. The rest will take care of itself.
