AFL a bit slow publishing the final draft order, final list lodgement was last Tuesday.

KB having some fun with Twomey and co yesterday, wonder if most of what he said was just trolling them? Hard to believe that any club would be revealing their true draft thoughts just to give the AFL some articles for their website.

It's an open secret among journos they get nothing out of Kinnear or Dalrymple. I don't think - outside the Academy picks - even Cal Twomey has got our first pick right for about 7 or 8 years, and he's usually as wired in as anyone.

My thoughts exactly. "Who are you and what have you done with KB?"

To be fair, in some of those years Sydney didn't get the first pick right either.

Yes. In those years we just used the first round as a warm up.

May as well trade down the order a bit on draft night if the only available player/s we want are those we think aren't rated as highly as the other teams. We'll hopefully get our guy and something else, with a bonus being if they don't turn out it won't look quite as bad if we used a lower pick on them.

Here's the latest, and may be final draft order going into the draft. It's notable how many late picks have now been extinguished due to lack of list vacancies.

Gold Coast are a chance to not have sufficient 2023 points to match bids unless they pick swap those 20's for multiple later picks that yield higher points but will need to be done before the Walter bid which should be at pick 2, unless Norf haven't learnt from their Daicos non bid gift. However, I can't see any club that is in a position to trade up to say pick 24. Gold Coast will be sweating where the bids come.

The infamous picks 87 & 94 that Geelong held up the Ratagolea trade until the last day of trading are now into 75 & 79, still in eye watering silly territory when you have to give those draftees two year contracts. They may not even come into a sensible range on draft night.

The touted us trading pick 12 for Norf's pick 17 & 18 is dangerous because GWS hold pick 16 and may be tempted to give us a clip for bidding last year on their academy player Rowston 8-10 picks earlier than expected. Would we let Cleary slide to GWS at that pick?

With an uncertain order of players, this will be one of the most fascinating drafts ever IMO. Could Twomey's great run of getting top 10's correct be broken this draft? Norf hold the key at 2 &3.

                Adelaide: 10, 14, 20
                Brisbane: 30, 39, 51, 54, 65
                Carlton: 22, 28, 68
                Collingwood: 19, 33, 72, 80, 84
                Essendon: 9, 31, 35
                Fremantle: 34, 46, 60, 63, 74
                Geelong: 8, 25, 70, 75, 79, 81, 85
                Gold Coast: 24, 26, 27, 32, 36, 38
                Greater Western Sydney: 7, 16, 43, 59, 71
                Hawthorn: 4, 44, 47, 49, 61, 62
                Melbourne: 6, 11, 42, 78
                North Melbourne: 2, 3, 15, 17, 18, 57
                Port Adelaide: 69, 83, 87
                Richmond: 29, 41, 64, 66
                St Kilda: 13, 21, 40, 77, 82, 86
                Sydney: 12, 45, 55, 76
                West Coast: 1, 23, 37, 58, 73
                Western Bulldogs: 5, 48, 50, 52, 53, 56, 67

Interestingly, the Age has an early mock draft where O'Sullivan gets to us, as none of Norf, Melb and Hawks take a tall, then Leake goes to GWS, Curtin slides to Geelong and Essendon go the forward in Caddy.

Personally, I find it hard to believe one of them don't take him - or Adelaide right before us if he's available - as he's easily a top 10 and they all need a KPD but, if it happens, happy freakin' days.

P.S: And they're not alone in suggesting the Pies are eyeing off a bid on Cleary at what will become pick 25.

North Melbourne has a habit of doing the unexpected at the draft table.

2020 draft: North Melbourne picked Will Phillips at pick 3 when Twomey's mock draft had them picking Elijah Hollands.

Meanwhile, Twomey's mock draft drops tomorrow. With North Melbourne having picks 2 and 3, Twomey's got his work cut out just trying to get the top 5 correct.

Curtin seems to be the one everyone is torn over. There is a recognition he does everything brilliantly, but is he a specialist at something (KPD). And the Dogs won’t take him.

Personally based on what I’ve seen, you wouldn’t let him past the fourth pick used. That is, it’d be Reid, Walter, McKercher, Curtin.

There are articles suggesting the Eagles may try to swap their future 1st (likely pick 1 again next year) to get another top five pick to grab Curtin given he is from WA.

Another phantom draft out today has us taking ruckman Will Green at pick 16, who is ranked at 23.

Suggestion we could trade up to access Connor O'Sullivan (doesn't say how with our hand) or down, especially with Will Green.

Interestingly KPD Ollie Murphy didn't make this top 28 but is linked going to Geelong. If we did trade our 12 for North's 17 & 18, then it becomes feasible to obtain both Green & Murphy?

Article also suggests Pies are keen on Cleary but bid likely won't come till their 2nd selection.

Also suggests we'll draft Indhi Kirk (son of Brett) as a Cat B rookie.

re Fox footy phantom today and our pick of green at 16. why do so many suggest we need another ruck. We have ladhams (i dont like), mcandrew and possible May (rookie) to develop as backups to Grundy
Fox sports hs murphy (as ksas has said)not picked ,neither stevens ,edwardes or hardeman stil there at this pick. On this phantom if we do nths swap we could get both murphy (as a futre support with McCartin at back)
and one of stevens or edwardes as future big bodied mids. Intersting how Kinear goes

I am struggling with this as well, it doesn’t make sense to me - but hey it’s the first round we mostly stuff those picks up lol ????

Beatson and co sick of hearing how we keep drafting small smokies with our first pick, so are going to shut us up by picking the tallest available
