I would keep him for depth. Don't reckon he's on much money. Hard as nails and his good games are top notch. Agree his nasty streak is a worry but worth another year.

I actually like a lot about Wicks' game, but he does so many dumb things. He contributed to a couple of losses ( or near losses) last year with his indiscretions. When he returned to the VFL he was at it again, giving away needless penalties. He's not Toby Greene. He is not good enough to wait for him to reform. We have plenty of players who could take his place. We have an excess of outside players who can move to our forward line. Both Stephens' and Gould could be given stints in the forward line in the hope of improving their chances of retention.
On a brighter note, thank you Harry for a fantastic game- simply great and hope you keep it going. Shout out to Rowy, Parks, Errol and young Gus who gave their all. Our first quarter and a half was great but our forwards couldn’t capitalise as the Lions’ Defense was very good. As the matched progressed their class became apparent and despite some shocking umpiring against us, they were the better team.
JMac disappeared after the first half; Lloyd had a shocker; Wilbur should be in the ressies; Francis struggled and I never want to see Wicks in our seniors ever again!
Overall our effort was ok but we have too many of our good players out and are carrying passengers we can ill afford.Comment

What can you possibly like about Wicks’ game? Yes, he kicks the odd good goal. He runs around a lot chasing shadows. Occasionally he actually catches an opponent but then tackles high or has a brain fade. He gives momentum back to our opponents. Sorry but he is the worst player for us since we’ve been in Sydney. Now he has 2 weeks to think about the rest of the year after which he should be delisted- just a liability we need like a hole in the head.Comment

If we challenge for a spot in the 8 in the next couple of years then Wicks can't be on the list. Simply not good enough.Comment

Where's our old mate "The Bloods". He called Gus Sheldrick right from the start. He had 19 disposals and 2 goals in only 55% of game time. He has to keep his place. He has really good anticipation, game sense, disposal and goes straight at the footy.
Amartey might be a good forward option with his marking talents, but he is the best example of a ruck resting forward. He always impresses me when he goes on the ball. In the last quarter he played with real authority.Comment

100% agree with you regarding Amarty. When he his injury free and puts a few games together in a row and gets comfortable at the level, I think he's going to be a very, very good forward/2nd ruckman. Quite possibly one of the best in the league and an absolute weapon for us!
The issue is who we have as our #1 ruckman going forward, whether it's Ladhams or if the young lad McAndrew can develop into a very good AFL ruckman? My hope is that McAndrew can be the answer, even though we are probably paying Ladhams a fair bit to be a VFL player... lol.

Good question Nico! Unfortunately he was banished for having a different opinion than most on here...

Much better effort - still lacked polish but fabulous intent and effort against a very good team. Loved Gus Sheldrick's 3rd qr, hope he gets the chance to show us more of the same.
AFL umpiring continues to push me to the brink of despair. The Florent decision was so obviously wrong that one can only assume the umpire involved doesn't understand the rules. How did we get to this point?Comment

Goal kicking prowess something that has been a bit lacking in our mids the last few years. Parker has historically done it, but has to spend so much time at the coalface these days. Mills is a lovely set shot, but not a profilic goal kicker. Rowie kicks the odd one but he’ll never be a 20 goal a year midfielder. McInerney started brightly on that score, but has dipped back.
But we know from last year Chad can do it, Gulden obviously and in the last few weeks since playing on the ball, Campbell’s been kicking one a week. If we can Sheldrick to a battalion of midfielders capable of being goal a week players, it will be an enormous plus for us over the next decade. It helps separate the best sides.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

I'm agreeing with you on what we should do with Wicks. I've come to the same conclusion as you that he's not worth keeping on our list. But he does have some good traits. He runs hard, is physical and aggressive. He plays with spirit and energy. His basic skills of marking, kicking and tackling are all good. It's just his decision making and brain fades which make him a liability. If not for that, he would probably be worth keeping on our list as a hand depth player. He's still young and has room for improvement.
Runs hard? The game is football, not athletics. He plays with spirit and energy? You are confusing him with Paps!
Bottom line: he offers zilch and a liability to boot. I feel bad being so negative about a Swan player but he really does my head in like no one else.Comment

Much better effort, this has not been a non-negotiable as in previous years and when it falls off it gets embarrassing.
We are much better without Buddy and shouldnt have given him another year, his dismal finals performances said it all.
Although the effort was much better there was still another fourth quarter fade out, the team is clearly not as fit as other teams.
Time for a major coaching, medical and fitness reboot at the end of the year. Fresh voices and approaches are needed desperately.Last edited by Merdo5555; 18 June 2023, 07:41 PM.Comment
