A couple of things I learnt from this game:

Don't be the away side and touch the ball in ANY way before it goes out

Darcy Fort their ruckman is absolutlely useless - that will hurt them if they make the finals

Hickey is near done - we need Ladhams back soon

People say free kicks dont affect the game lol

These umpires were unbelievably bad. But in the end we were not good enough against a very good team.

Proud of the team effort tonight, the lads were pretty relentless and deserved to be treated better by the yellow scum. Probably would have won that if the 4 umpires were truly neutral or actually talented at their job.

AB Swannie - you are correct! Warner was VERY average tonight. At least Sheldrick stood up I think.

Oh that was a disappointing result after quite an improved performance. There’s just those times in contested ball sits where we just don’t seem to do enough to get it back. Either seemingly waiting for a team mate to get it or the opposition is just that bit quicker or more desperate. We used to win games on those efforts. Now the lack of them or misfires seems to be having the opposite effect.
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

Not a bad effort considering some of performances this year. At least we had a fair crack for a change, which is promising! I missed the first half which sounds like it had some of our better moments.

I hope they don't bring Buddy back in next week and allow Buller a crack at a 'soft kill' so to speak, instead of the very tough first up game against one of the very best defender's in the AFL in Andrews.

I'd be happy with no chages next week if we don't have Mills or Tom Mac ready to play.

We were good tonight. No shame. Write finals off barring a miracle run.

What future picks do we hold again??

Come on man, I don't think we can blame Horse for the loss tonight. He actually made a few different moves and played some of our promising youth in their best positions for periods tonight, which we've all asked for on here!

Very disappointing third quarter. Played so well in the first half and just fall away in the second half. I dont understand what is wrong with them.

If you told me before the game we'd get within 16 points of them, I'd have said you've got rocks in your head.

Obviously plenty of room for improvement - especially for the the umpires - but a highly encouraging effort, I reckon!

                          GO BLOODS!

When was talent a pre-requisite for modern umpires.

All I want is consistency. Lions had blatant insufficient attempt to keep the ball in on several occasions and got away with it, we dare touch it before it went out and it seemed to be a free.

And that's before the joy of the joke that is holding the ball/incorrect disposal etc.

But the effort tonight was terrific and reminded us there is a very good team lurking in there with some elite talent.

Great to see Sheldrick really step up tonight and say I'm good enough at this level. Kid is exactly what we need in the midfield group and he can kick a goal too.

Rowy great again in a more attacking role, and Campbell's great season continues.

Hope Arnold has a good game in ressies tomorrow or Tommy is back. I want to like Francis but he is just dreadful once the ball gets past the initial contest.

What moves did he make in the game that had a positive infulence for us? Francis from back to forward? Stephens as sub? Playing players in their prefered position isn't something that should be celebrated. An AFL coach should know a players best position when selecting a side..

Some nice stuff from the boys tonight - even if the gap in class became evident. We’ve looked ragged at times this year, but kept up our intent.

Kudos to Harry, just outstanding. Parker and Rowie superb, Gulden excellent and Sheldrick is very good. He has power, clean hands, and quick feet and will learn to occasionally direct his handball clearances a bit better. And some of Campbell’s kicks were just honey.

Unfortunately Hickey just doesn’t have it right now. The endeavour is there, the execution not. He had no pre season so who knows .

And I remain deeply sceptical about Francis. My own view is he lacks the athletic profile for the modern game.
