I suspect the issue is from the dawn of time MCC members have always had access to AFL Grand Finals en masse
and to take that away from them will cause the earth to shift on its axis. People take out SCG memberships so
they can go to the Sydney Test. Imagine telling them after 500 years that they couldn't go to the cricket.
Large chunks of the Eastern subs would break off the mainland and fall into the ocean.
Unless the AFL can talk the Vic Govt and the federal Government into building another stadium in Melbourne and
giving it to them then the situation re GF tickets is not going to change in a hurry. Look how well the discussions
re building a 30,000 cap stadium in Hobart are going.
I'm not convinced going to the GF is the be all and end all. It's very expensive for most people and if you are
from outside of Vic, lets face it, it's a bit of a pain in the arse to go to once you've sorted out the tickets,
flights (or driving) and accomodation.
Someone who works for us is driving down to Melbourne tomorrow in a couple cars with nine family members
so they can go to the Collingwood training on Thursday, the parade on Friday and are going to watch the
game on a big screen at Collingwood's training ground for free. They all prefer doing this to going to the game.
She said the atmosphere is better and they'll save $5K by not having to buy tickets even if they could get
ten, which is highly unlikely anyway.
