On Fox Footy night (Jaye Clark), it was reported the AFL is about to announce changes to the bidding system on F/S & the Northern Academies.

Essentially clubs will no longer will be able to trade down & build a haul of low end draft picks to match 1st round picks. Forced to use higher picks to match. Exact details to be revealed.

Knee Jerk reaction to GC Academy match bids last year by Vic clubs & media.

As long as it changes Father/Son as well, it will be tolerable.

Nick Daicos for a bunch of junk picks was a travesty. Having to us a pick within 10-15 as part of the matching seems reasonable to me.

Can the AFL wait until Swans or GC have won a premiership before attacking their academies.?

Have a look at the rubbish collection of picks clubs have used to grab top of the draft players like, Daicos, Ashcroft, JUH, Darcy, GC haul.

The system has been badly broken and heavily exploited to the detriment of bottom of the table clubs. It needs urgently fixing but you watch the AFL come up with some tougher but complicated and cleverly rortable ideas and then not apply them until 2025!

The fix should be simple, regrade the points table, remove the discount, restrict how many picks can be used to match to say two picks? That would stop the rorting.

I know it hurts us but being able to match is a big enough bonus because you're jumping ahead of lower ranked teams to match.

Being reported by Twomey that Ollie's contract talks are progressing and likely to stay.

There seems to be a pattern developing.

This is a fair minded assessment.

I think a limit per draft of two picks is fair though it's a bit soon for everyone to start squealing about Gold Coast.

And as long as it is the same for F/S and the ridiculous Victorian Academies....

Loved Logan's press conference. What a mature and well measured man. Really happy to have him at our club. Really genuine

And.. he wants to stay at the Swans... "I'm happy to be here"

                      He was never leaving.

But I love his comments. A bit like Rowie said after re-signing, which was along the lines of: don’t assume you’ll find the connection we’ve got here will repeat itself elsewhere.

It's actually worth watching the whole press conference for how clear he is. And whilst he has a certain demeanour, it also fits what my understanding is: the guy is seen internally as a real emerging leader in the group.

Looks like Florent may be next to sign.

I really think they have to let Hayward go. We can’t compete with the offers that will come in for him. With a big offer we may scoop a late 1st round or early 2nd pick which would give us three picks under 30.

                        Great draft position.

Is there any good Swans Academy prospects this year or does GC have all the Northern Academy talent?

                          Roberts vs Campbell

                          Kicking general play?
                          Kicking at goal?
Closing speed to negate opposition movement?
                          Acceleration away from the opposition?
                          Tackling?
                          Marking?
                          Handballing?
Game awareness and decision making speed?
                          Combination with Gulden?
                          Forward entries?
                          Ability to run out games?

Does anyone see Robert’s a stand out vs Campbell in the above areas ?

I am loving Robert’s development and smart move so far having him develop AFL game time via the backline in the main.

If we need an extra mid thrown into the centre (due to significant injury list) then the time on the ground playing AFL top level will help immensely. Especially in finals if required.

If Campbell ranks higher in the above criteria then why is Robert's starting?

Who would you rather in the top23 come finals out of these two players?

When Parker, Mills, Rampe come back what role does Robert's play?

Robert’s has taken Lloyd’s role I reckon and he will keep his role when the others return, Campbell is to easy pushed of the ball at this stage and struggles to stay involved in the game for long periods, give him some time in the 2s to develop and find confidence (maybe he is a midfielder thst just needs to develop more)

Roberts is an excellent kick, in general play and for goal.

In my view, he's at least at Campbell's level in game awareness and decision making speed.

His forward entries are excellent and he runs out games well.

Importantly, I think he has excellent composure and ability contribute consistently to games over four quarters

I was a bit surprised Campbell was sub, but Roberts has definitely justified selection.

I think there’s a strong chance Mills takes Roberts role when he comes back.

Don’t see there’s much room for Mills through the middle with our current setup
