This. The club needs some serious introspection. I fell for the excuse of being too young and inexperienced in 2022 but I don't buy that anymore, not to the extent of playing as poorly as we did. But I think the club was just prepared to accept that and move on without looking into why we weren't able to be at least competitive. We might not have won but we shouldn't have been embarrassed. Because now it's happened again.

In a similar vein - but more recently - I suspect they didn't really dig into why the team fell in a heap against Port and were unable to stem the tide. Maybe they thought too much introspection would torpedo the rest of the season, but a bunch of players who'd been playing with so much cohesion, joy and effort for three or more months shouldn't suddenly fall into a heap of misery. If they had dug a little deeper, maybe they'd have had some idea of how to stop last Saturday from happening.

I contrast the bewilderment, confusion, sense of let down amongst fans with the raptures that we displayed at the SCG as we came back against GWS. As we accounted for Port. "This is a city in love with its team" said Gerald Whately. It felt true. But now we feel cheated, and we feel like we won't be able to trust them ever again. They've undone a few seasons of work in two short hours.

I can’t think of another team that’s come back to win after to losing two in quick succession let alone being humiliated both times?

Geelong in the 90s and Pies in 02/03 are the only two I’ve thought of. Geelong won 12seasons later and Pies 7 years. Pies didn’t have a single player that played 03 and 10.

I really don’t think this is a minor tweak I think it’s a clean out.

Chad could be the next Dustin Martin but I really feel this list is too damaged to win a flag now. I’d be taking 3 and 13 if they were on offer looking to build the next side.

edit: can add 09/10 St kilda to that. Still on the hunt 14 years later.

When was Emma Murray and her High Performance Mindfulness brought on board (the supposed secret weapon to give high performers their edge)? I have assumed (but don’t know) she was contracted precisely in response to 2022, with the objective that it should not happen again. Not a great advertisement for her services ….

Do the Swans still employ a psychologist (not Murray)? I recall some years ago that someone was appointed (a general psychologist not specifically a sports psychologist).

We stuffed one game in a dominate year, last thing you do is get rid of your best player or close to

I'd roll the dice he stays or you still get a good deal for him next year

This isn't Like the Dawson deal, a Vic side wont pass on him in the PSD and with the cap rising he won't be able to price himself out of the market

So I’m not sure the speculation he is definitely heading home at the end of next year should be treated as a given. His girlfriend is living in Sydney these days and Chad seems invested. I think we simply need to back ourselves, our culture and our performance to keep him. (Plus, if Freo give their picks and cap space to get Shai Bolton in, that’ll make it harder to have much left over next year. And West Coast is in such a bad place I can’t see that as an appeal).
I don't have an opinion on the retention of Cad-Onetackleinagranny-Warner. But whether he stays or goes, I'd suggest he might need to improve his wardrobe - more blue collars for a start.

The guy with others was exceptional all year.
When the big 3 were interviewed this season they all praised the hard work of Rowy etc to allow them to play the way they did.

That isn't Chad not wanting to get his hands dirty, that is Chad playing the role his coaches have for him.

I'd suggest, we need to get the balance right between ball in hand and winning the ball. Mills back in the middle will help that.

Can't have a go at a guy playing the role he was assigned, he did what the coaches want and will be Top 3 B&F to prove that.

Luke Parker requests trade to North Melbourne

I'm sad to see him go, as he has been a consistently good player, one of our best for 10 years. He's probably looking at more contract certainty, or possibly an on-field leadership role similar to what Luke Hodge did when he went to Brisbane from Hawthorn.

What would we get back? North Melbourne have picks 2, 22, 40, 58, 64.

Pick 40 would have a certain symmetry to it.

very sad with Parks almost 300 games. What do we get if we agree to let him go as he is contracted for 2025. Can we swap with their pick 2. giving back say 17 or 19 with perhaps a second rder in return. Go all the way. Also Suns pick 12 is supposed to be on table so they can bulk up for draftees. Lets go all the way. Perhaps we can use LLoyd or someone else in the parks trade.

I hope he is turned into more than Pick 40

I think we should play hard ball and demand they give us Dylan Stephens in return!

Sad to see Luke go, but totally understandable from his point of view. North should be honoured to have him. Along with Callan Ward, Luke is my favourite
player in footy. If some of our current crop of young players have turned into a Parker or a Ward in ten years time, we might have got somewhere in
                            September by then.

Apparently a salary dump. Parker on $800,000 next year from reports, I think we should play hard ball and demand they give us Dylan Stephens in return!

Parker was drafted with pick 40 in 2010. Trading him for pick 40 in 2024 would be an interesting coincidence.

While we would value Parker higher than pick 40, expecting North Melbourne to trade Parker for pick 22 is optimistic. Parker will likely play less than 100 games for the Roos. Pick 40 - a high 3rd round pick - would be adequate. This draft is going to be a fairly deep draft for talent. Pick 40 has every possibility of scoring a good player this year.

We could conceivably get pick 22 if we offered Parker and something else, but we lack choice of later picks that we can offer. Our picks this year are 17, 19, 55 and I doubt that Parker and pick 55 for pick 22 would get the deal done (that would value Parker at pick 30 according to this year's DVI).

So while pick 22 for Parker is a possibility, I don't see it happening.
