And re Jordan, I know he's excelled as a tagger, but I doubt that's even the best use of him. He's a good size body, has elite hands in close, good skills going inside 50 and can run all day.
I'd be inclined to see if we can assign the tagging role elsewhere next year and use Jordan more as part of a beefed up midfield rotation.
Cleary might be an option as a way to induct him fully into seniors. (If he played a few more games, I would have had him on your list, as he exhibits excellent footy IQ).
Clean hands is essential
Neale isn't fast but never fumbles
Sheldrick could be that guy for us and with many others on the outside running id let Campbell go inside his skills are elite. Prefer to see him chase the ball as opposed to spending the day in 2 minds
Yeah, agree Roberts did develop, and is good with ball in hand, but he lacks pace and is often beaten 1 on 1 to a loose ball.
Still feel overall the year was a disaster as we didn’t see great improvement in the forwards or Campbell, and Sheldrick injured, plus Vickery and Konstanty not impressing.
As Harley pointed out today, can’t be too hard on the forward set up. The Swans were the highest scoring team in the league.

Whatever ludicrous formula the AFL use to determine free agency compensation picks needs some serious adjustment. Saints get pick 8 for Josh Battle and GWS pick 16 for Perryman. I would suggest both clubs would be delighted with that.

There's something seriously wrong with the formula if players of that ilk are deemed worthy of the top tier of compensation.
I suspect the problem is that the AFL uses current average (whether that's mean or median) wages to plug into their formula, while the contracts that free agents are being offered at the moment factors in the imminent major increase in the cap. But it would be a pretty easy problem to solve if the AFL were interested in doing so.
Cleary clearly plays next year in the half forward role. Needs to learn the tagging role on best half backs.
I would think we should move away from tagging as a team and get players play the ball by going full on attack in the middle. Let’s loose games but let the mindset change from us having to negate opposition players to us winning the ground balls.
the players who we should want to do it would be James Jordon, mills, sheldrick and Rowbottom. But still think we are one tall big bull short. I would leave Heeney, Warner and Gulden to play the outside role and send one on the inside intermittently. Get Heeney and Warner to play the offensive corridor player like what Jordon DeGoey or Nick Daicos plays for Collingwood.
We may have to go backwards to go forward to tweak our gamestyle
a bit if we are to get the best from ou etc elite kickers,
this may involve trading out someone like - Florent Or Campbell. Or Both.

yep. If those players were traded not free agents, there is no way Hawthorn would give up 8 for Battle or Perryman would attract pick 16 as a swap.

The compensation formula is just buggered. But as always - it is by design buggered. AFL effectively using it to try and turn free agency into some form of 'equalisation', by having these line ball calls where they ultimately are using a factor it seems (wages) to over compensate clubs for players lost to free agency. Neither of the guys moving today would provide anywhere near that level of draft pick had it been a normal trade situation.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."
Also noticed, for what it’s worth, Joel Cochran from the Academy won the 2km time trial. I’m yet to see a rankings/mock draft with him inside the top 40, so not clear if we will need to use a draft pick on him or get him as a rookie.
If we are taking the view of going again with trades while we are in a window then everything is on the table except Errol
Patch Adams for me may even agitate for a trade if he and the club mutually feel he is likely to not feature in the best 22 as much in 2025
in years gone by Patch very strong contested but the game moves so fast now that his micro delays in passing when it’s on and or forcing it when it’s not on may mean a mutual decision if another club wanted him ?
lets be honest ……. We need depth and we need experience and I get that if Luke Parker is on $800k pa approx then it makes sense to use his $ as an older player for securing a couple of our gems in Warner etc
but for me if Patch is on say $500k pa i would not mind elevating CC to play more Snrs ahead of him in 2025
Parker and Patch moved on would be approx $1.3m to use and we all know we desperately need a key back as a trade most likely with Rampe maybe his last year in 2025
