With the potential crunch contract wise we are facing, we couldn't even get close to matching what the Roos were willing to offer for 3 years. And that is before the selection question of whether he will actually be best 23 beyond perhaps next season. So I suspect financially it was always going to be a no brainer for Parker.

I suspect Parker's comment is probably more about the thought that he would always play out his career at the Swans, and didn't think at some point he may be squeezed out. Until I see something confirming animosity, I still suspect its probably more a case of opening up $ for the next gen (every $ counts), and the case that at that sort of money, given the role we would expect him to play, it is simply too many $.

I really miss the significant veterans allowance that once meant it was a lot easier to hold on to the club favourites right until the end.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

I think we need to really concentrate on making a player out of Jack Buller. The guy is listed at 199 cm. That’s two inches taller than each of Logan, Joel and Dosser.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

Can't have a go at a guy playing the role he was assigned, he did what the coaches want and will be Top 3 B&F to prove that.
Thanks for sharing what instructions Chad was playing under. And the B&F results too. Always good to have someone from the Swans inner sanctum join us on RWO and share privelaged information. Just teasing.
90 posts already in your first month on RWO, that's a remarkle effort for a newby.

But seriously, for the rest of the season Chad had a perfectly respectable average of more than three tackles per game. So either his instructions were changed - or he had a 'mare, just like almost everyone else.

Mills back in the middle, pushes someone else out. Heeney or Rowy? Or just reduce both players CBA?

Agreed, I was hoping desperately that he might add a 6th name to the list of 2 flag Swans.

Good. I wasn't really interested in a "yes, dickheads" policy.

I did think “what a strange name, “uua” swan, didn’t click that it was “double U” = w.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I think the Adams signing was an unmitigated disaster.

If we hadn’t signed him, that is 19 more games for Corey Warner, Cleary Campbell and Parker.

We might have won less games and not made the GF, but we would still have Parker, more experience for Campbell, Clearry and Corey Warner, and better draft picks.

This really was a wasted year, all the players a year older (and closer to retirement or little trade value) no one really progressed in development, the second worst draft picks awarded (after Brisbane who get the trophy), and Parker replaced by Adams.

I don’t think I can be enthused at all about next year, unless Snell or Buller turn out to be really great tall defenders.

I do agree that Adams was a mistake. We should try to trade him. He might be fine with his contract and spending the next 2 years in the VFL or perhaps be willing to go to another team where he can finish his career at AFL level

We did have a few positives from a personnel standpoint:
                          1. We found a good AFL player in Roberts
                          2. Jordan has turned into a fine tagger
                          3. Melican got through the season with only a minor injury, and played pretty well.
                          4. Except for the GF, McInerney had a great year
                          5. Our tall forwards all improved, even if not up to the level we might have hoped for.

Agree with all of this, the tall forwards I honestly doubt we can keep all three in the side

Yeah, agree Roberts did develop, and is good with ball in hand, but he lacks pace and is often beaten 1 on 1 to a loose ball.

Still feel overall the year was a disaster as we didn’t see great improvement in the forwards or Campbell, and Sheldrick injured, plus Vickery and Konstanty not impressing.

                                Yep.

And re Jordan, I know he's excelled as a tagger, but I doubt that's even the best use of him. He's a good size body, has elite hands in close, good skills going inside 50 and can run all day.

I'd be inclined to see if we can assign the tagging role elsewhere next year and use Jordan more as part of a beefed up midfield rotation.

Cleary might be an option as a way to induct him fully into seniors. (If he played a few more games, I would have had him on your list, as he exhibits excellent footy IQ).
