With the potential crunch contract wise we are facing, we couldn't even get close to matching what the Roos were willing to offer for 3 years. And that is before the selection question of whether he will actually be best 23 beyond perhaps next season. So I suspect financially it was always going to be a no brainer for Parker.
I suspect Parker's comment is probably more about the thought that he would always play out his career at the Swans, and didn't think at some point he may be squeezed out. Until I see something confirming animosity, I still suspect its probably more a case of opening up $ for the next gen (every $ counts), and the case that at that sort of money, given the role we would expect him to play, it is simply too many $.
I really miss the significant veterans allowance that once meant it was a lot easier to hold on to the club favourites right until the end.
