I can't stand him, but he can be very good.
A story came out down here in Victoria at least a week ago regarding this but then another one came out saying there was a couple of Victorian clubs also interested.

Not sure how I feel about this possibility because I'm not a huge fan but he could be handy.....in our system, he may really flourish and be a consistently potent weapon.

Let's face it, Amartey and even McDonald at the moment, are not.

I can see this being a deal we only do if Parker leaves. Probably does make sense and as much of a legend Parker has been it would potentially be a small upgrade in terms of what best suits our current needs - I feel like Stringer over the next couple of years would be more damaging as a permanent forward than Parker

The latest Cal Twomey draft rankings have just come out.

Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' September ranking - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1222433

He still has Ashcroft at the top. Which I don't mind, as I think it's bit much that the F/S rule has two gun mids going to the Lions in a few years, when they've been consistently near the top of the ladder. So it'd be handy if they had to pay the maximum price. Which might leave them unable to match a bid for Sam Marshall: who's around about our pick and is a classy midfield accumulator.

I'm a little bit surprised that he has Smilie at 7, when I think I've seen other rankings that had him at 1. To me, he looks like Patrick Cripps, but with a better kick. Perhaps there's some doubt about his tank or something?

While I'm probably just repeating what I said the last time these rankings came out, I do like Jobe Shanahan at our pick. He's a hard at it KPF from Southern NSW, who's done well recently in the VFL. And with GWS now eliminated from the finals and their pick a bit higher than perhaps they were expecting, then they might be tempted away from him.

If we're looking for key position players, the Whitlock twins are also in our current range. Both are 200cm and can take a strong grab.

Cooper Hynes also caught my attention from that area of the draft. I can't recall seeing him play, but apparently he's a talented, big bodied midfielder, who could possibly be a Luke Parker replacement.

Also just released are the ESPN rankings. There's a fair amount of difference between the two.

There's a new No. 1 in town as a certified young star reclaims his mantle as the top draft prospect, while there are several new faces who have emerged in ESPN's draft board for September.

No to Stringer. Once we get rid of Ladhams we'll be free of look-at-me tatts. Can't be a bad thing thing surely.

Rumours this evening that we are inquiring about Sam Frost this evening, given the free agents heading to Hawks. Isn't young, and whether this year will prove an 'outlying' outstanding year in his career, but would be a solid player for a couple of years. Certainly better than say Hamling or Francis.

Sam Frost is a great one on one defender, tall and quick - that's not his problem. His problem is that sometimes he gains posession. For most players this is a good thing, for him it's a a disaster because he does something horrendous an almost every single occasion. He makes Peter 'Mensa' Ladhams look like Bob Skilton.

Another Hambling we don't need. Of all players out of contract I would go after Peatling from GWS. Has already become a good player but has plenty of upside.

On AFL website they say Swans have registered interest formally, so no longer a rumour.

Due to Hawks recruiting Barrass and Battle, he is not going to get a lot of games unless there are a lot of injuries.

So I guess he is a possible Francis replacement for us as a backup if Melican or Rampe get injured. But why, as I thought Will Edwards was coming along nicely, and we have Hamling for another year.

Love Ramps but have to plan for him playing 15 games max next.
Melicans availability this year is unusual

Fox is like for like with Rampe
                        Frost is like Melican

Still not sure why we grabbed Hamling
                        Happy to let Francis go

Hopefully someone from the 2s comes up next year

I don't get why we would go after a discarded defender. He was only getting a game because their nominated defender did a knee. Hawthorn look like getting Barrass and Battle and we are interested in the obvious one that was being pushed out of the team. And he finished the season injured. Strewth.

I think he was a Giant's academy kid, that they didn't pick up. We could have grabbed him as a rookie - as we did HarryC.

I see that Lukosius has requested a trade to Port from the Suns. As it usually seems, the AFL media were quite sympathetic to the player enticed by the so-called go home factor. Like, there was this from Twomey, "He's in Connor Rozee's bridal party this year, alongside Zak Butters, so the Power have had strong links."

Sure, but I suspect that he's been involved in a few weddings, as part of the extended Suns family. And I tend to think that the lure of someone's home city is often overstated. I mean, the go home factor apparently affects guys in their early to mid twenties, who are in their dream job, living in affluent surroundings, have a healthy support network, have many fans looking up to them and are being paid at least a few hundred thousand dollars a year. So, I can't help thinking, that they're probably not hugely missing their high school friends, their parents and their teenage bedrooms. Perhaps more of a lure, might be a contract with an extra hundred thousand or so. Or the sort of out of cap perks, that the traditional AFL states might be better able to provide?

Going through the players delisted so far, the one name that strongly interests me is Sebit Kuek. He was taken in the 2022 midseason draft by Fremantle and is a 199cm, freakishly talented, South Sudanese player. Unfortunately, he did his ACL in 2023 playing in the WAFL and only came back late this season, for a few more WAFL games.

I'm not sure why Fremantle delisted him? Perhaps they think his knees or his body aren't up to the rigours of AFL? But I would hope that our recruiting staff make some enquiries. If his body is okay, he could be a low cost addition to our WA contingent, with a high potential pay off: as this old highlights reel demonstrates.
