We delist 3 players at the end of 2024 season, then there is the space for Warner in the salary cap. QED. Also the maximum cap goes up. So if it's a matter of money then it shouldn't be too difficult to keep Warner. I don't know what people are worried about.

All players delisted are replaced by new draftees or recruits, usually if they are delisted they are on minimal money so the benefit is minimal unless a big name on big money leaves/retires. The increase in the salary cap leaving more space for larger new contracts is a bit of a fallacy, as most contracts these days, especially the top end players have written-in clauses that their contracts increase in line with the increase in the overall cap. No doubt some clubs will be able to offer a player like Warner more than we can, if he chooses to stay it is for other reasons being more important to him than extra money i.e. he views the Swans as his best option to chase premierships.

Not sure if injury news should go in this thread? Couldn't find an injury list thread.

Anyway - Sheldrick's ankle injury from the weekend is a ligament, 8 - 10 weeks, and Buller is on the inactive list with a lower back issue.

Injury Update: Jack Buller & Angus Sheldrick

That's a very late move with Buller. He was playing less than a week ago.

In some ways I'm glad for the confirmation he's been battling with injury because he's been underwhelming this season. On the other hand, I wonder if he'll get another chance next season.

Yes, I watched him in the last VFL game, seemed to be struggling and I wondered what happened to the promising new arrival from last season. So as you say, good to have confirmation that something isn't right.

Buller being placed on the inactive list, means that we now have pick 14 in tomorrow's mid-season draft. Haven't really given any thought to who we should take, but I suppose best available key forward makes sense?

Skimming through the list of those who nominated, I noticed that there were a handful of overage academy players. Only a couple of forwards though, in Rider and Podmore-Taylor. Rider is a skilful medium forward, who can take a turn in the midfield, while Podmore-Taylor is an athletic ruck/forward who's a bit raw, but could develop into quality player.

I wouldn't mind either, but there's possibly better prospects in amongst all the names that I didn't recognise. And who knows, Kinnear might get a bit stubborn and redraft Matt Ling.

Just on Warner, it has been said that he wants to win a premiership with the Swans so he ain't going anywhere until that box is ticked. We might win one this year so maybe he goes at the end of his current contract (2025)....but we already know the players have talked about accepting unders to achieve success together and why wouldn't he want to win more flags with the Swans?

I have every confidence in the club to get a deal done, eventually.....and seeing he's contracted to next year, there's really no hurry so it makes sense not to pull the trigger on a new deal right now. I'm not too worried at this point.

Not sure why we bother with a pre season pick

Basically its 70k minimum upto 100k

We would be better off throwing 25k at Lloyd, Ramps and Parks to pay some salary fwd to ease whats coming

That we put Buller on the LTI list means we have our eyes on someone in the free lucky dip of the MSD. Whether that player is still available at pick 14 remains to be seen.

I see LOLNorf are eyeing off Geordie Payne from Tasmania. Dumb as that club. Took McKercher at pick 2 in the ND and the Tasmanian's at a club like Norf will be bolting south end of 20027 so lets add another one to our list.

I suppose on recent selections we are trying to give Edwards and Snell every chance to keep building their skills as tall defenders.

Snell also appears to have the flexibility to play a Rampe type role where he can switch when need be to medium talls etc.

Hamling appears to be able to play forward better than expected and could play a basic role up front in Snrs for a few games if injuries struck. Yet is primarily an intercepting tall defender.

Francis can play both forward or back as a tall.

Arnold seems to get injured a lot. He also appears only a tall defender.

Reidy still struggling to get the body right but up front tall primarily.

Im wondering if we will go with a tall defender that has a good kick and could play a swingman role in the future like a Sam Reid style of player?

Persisting with Melican, bringing in Francis and Hamling shows our depth tall backline strategy > with no guarantees for Francis and or Hamling to play at the Swans in 2025.

But for me we hax Fox our real swingman out for a while which hurts when other injuries strike.

So for me a tall defender or forward we make into a defender bit by bit makes sense for our 2025 ie This player in the mid season draft unlikely to play Snrs in 2024 but maybe ?

If we are going for a backup key forward I can’t see us picking a developing youngster. We should be looking to a mature body perhaps someone like former Suns player Brodie McLaughlin who was the leading VFL goal kicker last year

I haven’t seen this reported elsewhere, but there’s nothing in this from Chad to worry about.

Seems to be saying that he won't really consider moving to Perth, unless one of the teams has their premiership window wide open. Could be a while. And it's sort of reassuring, that he appears to think that this current Swans team is capable of more than one premiership.

It certainly is with the age profile and level of talent, a number of A graders when many teams have one or none. Imagine if Dawson was still here, grrrr

Got to acknowledge the recruiters for identifying A+ players like Dawson at 55 and Chad at 39, players that could comfortably be Number one picks
