    BUT:
    1. LRT played ok. He has been steadily improving this year IMO, and looks more comfortable in his role every week. At the current rate of progression (and hopefully a good run in the finals) he should be a solid to good CHB by Round 1 next year.

In that case he should stay there. To get a good CHB that can play there for the next 8 years is a good investment.

    2. He needs to learn to punch. It looks to me like he does a lot of slapping at the ball, and his spoils rarely make solid contact.

Even our rucks do that. Must be a team ethos.
    3. He needs to wear gloves. Even if it only gives him a psychological advantage. Cornes and Leppitsch have done it in the past.

    Marking will come with confidence.
    4. His decision-making needs to improve - hopefully experience is all thats required, but he certainly seemed a bit more proactive on Saturday. There were no rabbit-in-headlight pauses with the footy that we gotten so used to.
Its really up to the more experienced guys to offer options and talk/guide younger players

His spoiling is a concern, he is as yet unable to judge what he can get away with when spoiling.

It's a possibility, it may help his marking but he may lose ground with his punch.

I did hear somewhere (might've been on the wireless during the game) that he has been having regular dialogue with Silvani!!!!! A couple of phone calls a week, has even flown up to Sydney once to give him a one on one.

Come to think of it a few of those kamikazee spoil attempts over the last few weeks have looked familiar.

I've never used gloves, when I was playing they were used only in soccer. I did notice when they first arrived that players would remove them when having a shot at goal.
I wonder whether that "grippiness" which can affect the drop when kicking may not affect the touch when palming?
Similarly I wonder also at their fit, when punching can you clench your fist as tightly?

Not having worn one myself, but I imagine they are fairly flexible, allowing one to create a fist. So I would imagine the only issue is for kicking, as all (i think) players seem to ditch it when having a shot.

I used to goalkeep as a teenager, and the older style goalie gloves (not the big soft oven mitt ones you get these days) used to be employed for the same purpose to good effect - grab and punch.

They have a grippy surface on the inside, and a harder surface on the tops of the knuckles and fingers.

Never been a huge fan, but he is improving, there is no doubt. Certainly lacks confidence in his kicking, and is handballing 90% of the time. However I think there has been some rise in his profile in the team of late...they're not ignoring him as much

I see a bit of the Dunkers about him occasionally.

                        I said OCCASIONALLY.

Got to give him some credit, he's getting better. I decided on the we that it was almost worth having him in the team just so that Goodes is no longer stuck at CHB.

The glove "sticks to the ball" thats why you take them off, with some of the gloves you can pick the ball up just by placing the glove on the ball..i.e not actually wearing it.

On Vogels I would like to see him given a run at FB to free Barry up.

                                Cheers
