a guy gets stretchered off with plates in his head and the offender gets a week.

I don't know but if the AFL suspend Barry they will have blood on their hands..eeek bad pun but you know what i mean!

Even Sam Newman said he will take the AFL to court if they suspend barry.

You're right about the Ralph piece (a St.Kilda fan?).

"Maguire is no lightweight ? he has traded punches in the ring with fellow South Warrnambool hardman Jonathan Brown during off-season training ? but Hall's swinging fist left him slumped on the turf.

        Surely he's kidding.

But I think the AFL ratings show Sydney more consistent.

and i also hate how everyone seems to think that because hall did boxing it makes it worse - WTF has that got to do with it.

so if stephen king was a kickboxer would he have gone up a few weeks ago?

A precedent has been set and as such he should suffer the consequences. That is the harsh reality of the tribunal. The faster you get over the fact that Hall won't play the better the Swans can plan for next week
Sadly, I've gotta agree with you. It wasn't much of a hit - and McGuire tried to milk it - but it was there & Bazza's in a bit of trouble.

Yet he still could get off - I wouldn't be surprised either way.

We simply must assume that he's gone for now and get on with preparation.

I have no idea what people are waffling on about with regard to the player ratings. It's a silly as Saintsational and their conspiracy theories, yet they're laughed at...

Neither Rocca nor Cloke really did a lot as far as I recall, yet they received a week and missed a grand final.

The main difference is in both of those cases there is clear footage of contact being made, but there isn't here.

My nephew was over this afternoon and he's studying evidence at Law School at present. I'm a lawyer by training too. I said "watch this footage - it's the only evidence there is. And don't think as a footy fan, think as a lawyer."

We went through it frame by frame. There are a few interesting things to observe. Baz only starts to clench his fist as he swings and you can't tell if it's clenched at the end. The most imortant thing is that you can't see the contact as Baz' body blocks the camera at that stage. Under rules of evidence, that could end the possibility of the report right then.

Thirdly (and this is something I hadn't noticed till I did it freeze frame) Immediately afterwards, Maguire becomes clear again - and you can see most of Baz' forearm is on his side of Maguire's arm. It is quite possible (and I'd have a silk and a biomechanic to argue it) that Baz may have punched Maguire's arm. That's certainly what the evidence suggests. He certainly did NOT punch his stomach - it's possible that he hit him in the ribs but that's an unlikely place to aim for with a clenched fist.

So, under rules of evidence, it's possible that the tribunal will declare tomorrow that he has no case to answer. If they decide there is, there are clear grounds for appeal. No wonder Roos seems so sanguine that Baz will be playing in the Grand Final.

You better dust off that coat then.

Look at it from the other side. What would be the prosecutors address?

He was saying that he would ONLY get a week - but with the discounts it will come down to less than 100 points and thus he would be able to play.

can't remember rocca's (think it was pretty minor), but cloke took a huge swipe at the ball, missed it completely and almost took the guy's head off. not intentional but definitely was reckless.

did it myself during the season when playing full-back. i felt pretty bad, but my opponent was okay about it.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

The funny about Maguire, is that when he goes down he doesn't really hold any part of his body in pain, which is normally what happens when you get punched in the stomach, chest, etc. Does suggest it may have been a bit put on or simply aggravating another injury.
