    ROLLLLLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just listening to a interview Steve Price (2UE), was having with Graham Bond, apparently at the start of the year the tribunal was shown a video on what is "in play" and "behind play", apparently a example of in play was shown involving Dean Rioli, and is exactly the same as the Hall incident.
So from what Graham Bond was saying Hall will plead guilty to 3 parts of the charge, but should get it down graded to inplay and with the discount will take his place on Saturday

Who is this Graham Bond? He seems to have been very vocal on this subject over the last couple of days but until yesterday I'd never even heard of him.

Whilst this gives me confidence, I am yet to see footage that conclusively puts the incident into the timeframe of the game. I'd like to see, like picture in picture, the ball in play and Bazza's incident. Then at least we can see where he was and where the ball was or where it was going.

Bondy just on the radio again - reckons the only one way he can beat the charge, and what the Swans will do is to plead guilty on all counts but strenuously argue the ball was 'in play'. The DVD which the AFL circulated to all clubs that shows / defines 'in play' showed a similar incident with Adam Simpson, where he was considered 'in play' even though he was 40M away from the ball at the time.

By arguing he was 'dummy leading' he will will beat the suspension - he sounded very confident.

But - if the he doesn't, then there is practically no chance that any appeal would work in his favor...

Agree there because it comes down to one of two options:

              1) Try to beat the charge altogether which seems unlikely
              OR
              2) Plead guilty to the offence but contest the classification which would, if upheld, mean he would get the 25% discount. If however the challenge to the classification was dismissed, he would lose that 25% discount.

I don't think that's the issue according to Bondy - it was the fact he was trying to create space for himself as demonstarted by the dummy lead - this act of trying to create space determines its 'in play' - not where the ball is....

Bondy is an ex Richmond and Saints (I think) player who is 3AW's main tribunal reporter.

He would certainly be a person who knows what he is talking about - he is not a sensationalist at all.

If he gives him a chance under the 'in play' scenario then we might be right.

Does anyone think the Match review panel may have deliberately overlooked this so at appeal it change be changed?

Graeme Bond is a former Richmond premiership player who is now part of the 3AW football team. He does the stats on matchdays and sees more than 100 games per year. But he has become best known for his knowledge of the tribunal, which he attends and reports on each week. It is said that he has been to more tribunal hearings than any other person.

So there's probably noone better placed to predict how the tribunal is likely to interpret any incident. Fingers crossed he's got this one right.

Bond is an ex-Richmond player and is now on 3AW.

But if the ball was rebounding from our F50, is it still in play?

No doubt there will be this kind of technology used tommorow but if you watch the replay you can pretty much get the incident to within about an 8 second time frame in which the swans had the ball. I believe when it happened the ball was in Ben Mathews possesion and he was running forward and then fumbled.

See - that's how you underestimate Ben. He knew if he did that fumble that he'd captain the Sydney Swans to their first premiership. Forethought indeed.

I'm slightly calmer than I was around lunchtime. Time to start repairing the damage around the office, I guess.

I'm really no expert - only trying to read between the lines of what he was saying (any hope of work of work this week has vanished). My interpretation was that where the ball / play is, is irelevant to a degree - it's what Baz was trying to do at the time of contact in order to set himself up to be ready for when the ball came back down...
