I just don’t think he has that type of football in him, he likes to run and jump on the lead or throw his hands up in the air to get a free kick if he gets any type of body contact.

Yes that’s a reasonable comparison, it looks like we are stuck with him for now as we seem to be hit hard in the big man dept again.

The AFL website has posted an injury update for all clubs.

            • Logan McDonald - ankle surgery, not resumed full training, progress "delayed".
            • Hayden McLean - groin, resumed team training this week.
            • Jesse Dattoli - back, will resume running in 2 to 4 weeks.
            • Will Edwards - broken leg, will resume team training in the next month.
            • Jack Buller - shoulder, sidelined 2 to 4 weeks.

Thanks TS. From the above injury list it seems only Hayden Maclean will be ready for the opening round. The rest will have delayed starts to the season, which is a shame as it will put them right behind for senior selection, particularly the latter 3 who i was hoping to see pushing their case.

Can't afford any injury setbacks during these shortened preseasons, so I can't understand the calls from some to start the season even earlier in February!

On the flipside, i"m anticipating Sheldrick, Cleary & Corey Warner to serously push for regular games and have breakout seasons.

Four of the five injured players are taller players and the players you mentioned are not the same kind of player.

Players that I expect to be considered for selection while the tall injured players recover include Hamling, Ladhams, Andrew, Francis and Snell, all taller players. Green may get a debut this year.

Hi TS, It wasn't my intention to insinuate Sheldrick, Clearly & Co Warner would replace any of the injured players, my apologies if so. Just they would (hopefully) have breakout seasons.

However i do agree with your list of potential replacements for the injured talls. Would be exciting to see Andrew, Snell or Green make their debuts. Riley Bice may also get his chance in defence.

Understood. Yes, I would love to see your list of players get some games as well. The opportunity for these games will not come from the injuries to taller players. Other methods may be possible, such as a rotation policy or a different forward structure.

Yes, our forward structure needs tweaking re our talls. I don’t know if McCartin is the answer but we don’t seem to have anyone else. Is Hamling worth a try?

Yes, I tend to think that Sheldrick or Cleary stepping up, could be essential for us having a decent season. Both are hard at the ball, inside mids, and contested possessions are an area that we need to improve on.

And if I was forced to pick who would be our most improved this season, I'd probably go for Snell. He has plenty of pace and skill, and some of his VFL form reminded me of AJ.

Quite possibly. He did well when experimentally moved forward in the VFL, but in this season's training footage, I've only noticed him playing as a defender.

I'm open to expirement with our forward line, which includes Hamling, as i recall Eade saying post GF that it was one of our downfalls that we didn't experiment enough in season.

I know it was dead time late in the GF, but when i saw Blakey moved to the forward in the last quarter and take a nice mark from a strong lead, i was screaming in frustration from the stands why Armatey & co had failed to even attempt so all day!

I would personally prefer Blakey over McCartin tried up forward, but any experimental change up is worthwhile.

We really do need Logan to have a breakout year which i think he's capable of. I think Armatey needs to exploit his athleticism further rather than engaging body contact where he gets knocked off the ball too easily.

The AFL website has reported on an interview with Dean Cox about where everyone is at.
                              Players mentioned:
Logan McDonald - will see surgeon this week. Is running in training. Won't be ready for round zero.
Hayden McLean - rejoined main group this week.
Tom McCartin - mentioned as a possible forward option.
Sam Wicks - mentioned briefly as playing behind the ball.
Callum Mills - has had a good pre-season. Played injured in most of the seven games he played last year.
