Judging by the affection he has for Dean Cox I would say its a good bet he will stay around for another 2 years.

After having our hopes raised over the last week that Chad is likely to re-sign for 2 years, that tone was changed today when Chad was door stopped as Perth Airport today. He re-instated his decision is still open and difficult. When asked who he'll be in supporting in the Perth derby this week, he said West Coast cause of Harley Reid.

Recent reports regarding Chad Warner's future had suggested the star was leaning towards re-signing with Sydney but Swans fans may be a little nervous after hearing the off-contract star's latest comments.

Gerard Healy was still adamant on SEN tonight that Chad will re-sign for 2 years.

There was no way Chad would have declared his hand to an impromptu interview especially with a channel in opposition to one of the club’s sponsors. If an announcement to stay in Sydney is made it will have all the bells and whistles for maximum publicity

The idea he was gonna give his negotiating position and future away to a Ch10 reporter at Perth Airport is nonsense. A nothing burger.

Have to agree. You'd hope he'd realise that rejecting Perth teams to a Perth reporter in Perth might not be the smartest thing to do.

Also very easy to say his manager is dealing with it and shut it down. Poorly advised imo.

Is there another player that has shopped the market like this, stayed with their club and won a flag? I’m sure there are but Buddy leaving the hawks is the example in my mind. No player is bigger than the team. Different players but Errol > Chad and I doubt we’re paying Errol anything like $1.4 / year.

a two year deal just keeps the circus rolling and is a distraction the team doesn’t need after humiliation.

Personally I’m hoping he doesn’t sign an extension.

I’m also pretty sanguine if he signs or not; if he does, then great, I’ll be delighted. If he doesn’t, only WC have the collateral and cap space to get him, which would involve their first two draft choices, at the very least. We’d be able to snaffle our Academy boys and then some. If Freo make a play for him, the Swans will want something potent in return. Caleb Serong was a Swans fan, would look great in red and white.

I think we should target players like - Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Steven May, Jake Lever, Jamarra Ugle Hagan.
I know they are all tarnished in some ways however, having Steven May or Jake Lever and even half interested Clayton Oliver could help us in to solve some of our deep problems.
or maybe go for Jeremy McGovern. That would be immense if we can get him.
i am really frustrated seeing the same problems since 2022 and nothing done about it.

Steven May is 33. McGovern is 32. McGovern hasn't played more than 19 games in a season since 2019 (granted that was last year - but before that he played 9, 10, 15, 12 games). We don't need any more people for our injury room.

Both are far too old for mine - they solve problems for a year or two at best, if at all if they can't stay on the park.

We desperately need a really high quality key defender - we need a clone of Taylor from the Giants, ideally someone in that sort of age range too. I don't mind recruiting older players, but not so keen on it being key position players.

I have long held the view that we probably have just about enough at each end of the ground, if we get the midfield group right. How I'd love a Kennedy style player in our midfield group - I think it would really round out the group, and give someone else to help Rowy out in the dirty, grunty side of the midfield work. I think we are too reliant on getting our 'game going', and don't know how to win if the opposition imposes their style on us (think Grand Final), or are able to stifle our style (think the Pies the other night). The Swans flag teams of 2005 and 2012 had their 'style' and preferred approach, but could win in games not played on their terms, as most Flag winning teams invariably can.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

Mills is the Mid we need, speaking of blokes that haven't played much.

Agree about a Key Defender as well but there aren't many young established ones out there so better off trying to develop Riak or draft one

Great points mcs- spot on. A key defender is needed as Ramps is almost done and Lloyd too. I’d go for Petracca or Oliver for the midfield to help out- if they are gettable of course.

We have 3 KPDs in the wings, who frustratingly have just returned from injury but haven't had chance to press claims due to the multiple VFL byes (Snell & Will Edwards) or is out long term (Riak Andrews). The latter to me has the most potential.

I don't think we are in a position trade in for any of the contracted star players mentioned, as we're already overstretched in trying to match bids for touted Academy trio King, Chamberlain & Carmichael under the new bidding rules coming into effect..

Our only trade in avenue is via Free Agency, if we still have cap space assuming Chad sign on.
