I heard this from a very, very good source last week: Tom Hawkins signs on one day for $250K, the next day farm machinery to the value of $750K lobs at his farm. Nothing to see here!

I'd say Buller had a frank discussion with the club about opportunity.

If he had another year with limited opportunity due to the availability of others he would be on the scrap heap.

      Can't blame him

This fixes the anomaly where the wooden spooner's end of first round pick would be right next to the premier's end of first round pick. So the wooden spooner's end of first round pick is inserted after pick 10 (a first-round pick) and the premier's end of first round pick is inserted after pick 27 (a second-round pick).

        2. The compensation picks are created by the destination club forfeiting picks as if they matched a bid on a player, with no discount. This will make it expensive for top teams to raid bottom clubs for players, but players moving the other way can do so at a relatively low cost. If the destination club lacks points-bearing picks, they would receive a points deficit.
I'd just get rid of it altogether
8yrs service is great, after that a player should be free to go anywhere, if he doesnt agree to re-sign.

The club no longer has to pay his wage, thats the compensation, they get to spend it elsewhere.

They need to make player contracts fixed as well, Curnows, Merret, contracts should go with them.
        Shouldn't be renegotiated

Max King at #20 in this one:

We enter the 11 to 20 range of the 2025 AFL Draft Power Rankings — a section stacked with genuine first-round prospects and players who, in the right system, could become centrepieces of their club…

Maybe right about Buller, its not his fault but its the Swans recruitment and cselectors fault. Should have been in the side earlier , but newver the less shorly we could pay him more than pies and for a longer term. Players of his size and abilty dont grow on trees. Its not all Coxs fault JL deserves some balame he too did not play him except for a couple of games. Would make him go into the drafts where the lower clubs would be clamouring for his talents particularly WCE, stick it up Collingwood.
Maybe we night get a Serong at last. Seems a good size and player. Goodness knows we need backmen.

What would we get for Buller going to the Pies? The way he was improving each game & finishing with up 3 goals in the last game, would suggest we optimistically would push for a 2nd rounder but probably only receive a 3rd.

              Pies currently have picks 36, 54, 64, 72.

We should push for 36 as 54 seems unders in a shallow draft. May also depend what picks Pies receive in return for Mihocek & Elliot should they both leave.

Collingwood finished third. Their picks are actually 34, 52, 64 (Western Bulldogs), 70.

This makes it less likely that they would part with pick 34 without something in return in addition to Buller.

Collingwood have a prospective father-son player available, Thomas McGuane. His draft position would be close to Collingwood's pick 34; he is ranked at 37 here: 2025 Draft Power Rankings: #31 – #40 (readingtheplay.wordpress.com).

It would be risky for Collingwood to hold on to pick 34 because McGuane could be bid on at around that pick. I can see them being willing to move that pick on, but in return for a points-bearing pick in addition to Buller. Pick 34 for Buller and 45 may not be enough to satisfy Sydney, but pick 34 for Buller may not satisfy Collingwood. Other trades will be needed, perhaps involving future picks.

                  A pick upgrade at best.

Not sure what we have, but send them a 50s pick for 36

We won't play hard ball, then we probably put 36 with our other 2nd Round for Serong, because we are nice like that

Buller probably saw Hamlings signing as another player he would be stuck behind

Tagging full forwards are as rare as hens teeth

It’s disappointing that Buller is requesting a trade- true, he only got games late in the season where he showed promise. But as far as I’m aware, he didn’t do much in the ressies to earn an earlier call up, even though we had our talls out injured. If Logan and Joel stay fit, he would struggle to get in the forward line and so we would need to put him down back. Maybe he doesn’t fancy that, otherwise why wouldn’t he stay?

What I have seen of King it will be interesting to see if develops enough (he lacks game sense) I feel he will be another Gary Rohan who had a descant career just couldn’t put it all together
