Without wanting to incite previous rowbottom based discourse that a certain former user was famous for, I do think the Rowbottom, Sheldrick, Jordon and Mills chat is one worth having. Personally we could make do without Rowbottom as I don’t think all 4 can play in the mids together, and while Mills can play defence very well, I think his real value is in the mids. If we can get a good trade for Rowbottom we should take it. Wonder if we can package him up with a later pick for Rosa and a mid to late first rounder? We would miss Rowbottoms leadership though. A lot of the swans comment on that in interviews

These guys released a phantom draft this morning - has us taking Schubert and then matching a bid at 20 for King. Are we happy with this?
https://readingtheplay.wordpress.com...t-version-1-0/
If Sydney doesn't recruit either of Curnow or JUH, a tall forward may be considered at our pick. Schubert would be a good choice IMO. My only criticism with this choice is Max King is also a key forward (though 5 centimetres shorter) and I'm not sure we would be recruiting multiple forwards in the first round of the draft.
Other players that may be available at our pick include:
* Xavier Taylor (191cm defender). Unlikely to make it to our pick, but any taller defenders we could get are worth noting.
* Archie Ludowyke (197 key forward). If Schubert is not available, Ludowyke could be considered. He wouldn't be the best player available though.
* Josh Lindsay (183 cm defender/mid). Could he replace Mills at half back and allow Mills to play more in the midfield?
* Sam Grjl (or Grlj); it is pronounced like "Grill" and his nickname is "the Sizzler" (183 cm midfielder). Fast outside mid. If available at our pick he could be an interesting choice.
Other than that, it's guesswork at this stage until there's a clearer idea of what picks Sydney will have on draft night."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi final👍 1Comment

Details of Tassie Devils draft concessions and access to uncontracted players was announced yesterday. Coming into afftect for the 2027 & 2028 seasons.
The AFL's 19th club, Tasmania, will have access to a huge array of concessions as it builds its inaugural list
Hope we have our out of contracted stars locked away by then!Comment

So, to pose a question, rather than a firm proposition: 'if' Rowie is going to the GC, 'if' Melb discount his salary by half a million (as is being speculated), meaning his salary is more around $7-800K, and 'if' we're comfortable about his off field issues, would we be interested in Clayton Oliver?
He was the best contested ball-winning player in the comp for three to five years (basically taking over from our own Josh Kennedy) and still averaged 25+ possessions a year this year, albeit with lower hurt factor than previously.
Have to admit I'm a bit open to it as I still think we're a pure inside player short. Him and Mills doing the hard yards, frees Isaac, Errol and Chad to shine even more. Add JJ and McInerney to that rotation, plus some cameos from Paps or an emerging player like Cleary, and it's a pretty potent mix. It would stymie Gus's development though.
Anyway, a lot of ifs to that question, but wouldn't be surprised if the club looked at it.Comment

I reckon we would and should go after Clayton. Even though he is past his peak, we need someone who can compliment our outside players. I think Warner, Henry, and Errol will flourish if given the service. The problem is we are not sure if he can give them the service they need to make it count. And if he is hungry enough or not. We should look at him only if Rowy is going. Otherwise we will be surplus on the slow midfielders and we would be going seriously backwards in our midfield. We need to look at speedy Braeden Campbell going through and doing what Zac Bailey does in terms of go through stoppages and use his skilful boot. But does it have in him or not I am not sure. We won’t find till we tryComment

With Ladhams staying and Green yet to play, a Tall fwd us the least of our needs.
Lever, Serong etc.
Be good to have Goodwins ear for Lever and Petracca or Oliver, I take Oliver due to his age.Comment

they immediately put a line through his name, and I have seen nothing to suggest that this has changed. Yes, he is a good footballer, but there are good reasons why Oliver, May, and Petracca have been singled out and told to look for other opportunities.
He would be a bigger risk than JUH.😀 1Comment

We still have Taylor Adams on our list who has a year remaining on his contract. Oliver will be 29 next year and worried he could be a similar story. Why do Melbourne think he's no longer a viable midfielder? Goodwin will be in the best position to advise the club if we we're at all interested, as i do have my doubts.
Not surprised Curnow's options has now been narrowed to us. Is his heart really in it to play for us? Think it will require a 3 way trade with us departing with our first round picks and another club offloading a star speedy midfielder to Carlton. News that Carlton is now out of the race for Flanders makes that increasingly diifficult. I don't think Rowbottom is in the mix, as i reckon too much has been made of uncle BT's comment. The ball is in Charlie's court with his manager if they want to make this happen.
Think Curnow will remain at Carlton due to the increasing complexity, but hope it doesn't drag out all through the trade period as we have other targets/needs to focus on.

Wouldn't go near Curnow, would still see if JUH comes cheap though, that would be worth it.

Lever or Serong yes please and Curnow would be a massive upgrade on any forward we have now.
JUH - apparently still has ongoing off field issues it the rumors are to be believed, I think its best to let someone else take the risk (maybe once he hits rock bottom career wise, we could take a look)Comment

Wouldn't touch Oliver with a barge pole, the game has gone passed slow inside midfielders with poor ball use and no positional flexibility. There is a reason a team is willing to pay that much of his wage and for such a long period.

Ironically if we don't land a tall defender we will be the same as Western Bulldogs😀 2Comment
