Reported by Tom Morris as an offer. I hope Carlton reject it as I think it stinks. Pushing out Ollie and Wil who are both under long contracts and in my opinion overs.

SEN reporting we've lodged our offer - 2025 and 2026 R1 picks, plus Hayward and Florent, and Curnow and a later pick (assuming for use on Academy selections) coming back.

Charlie is a very talented footballer, it was always going to take a significant package to get him. I think that's a reasonable/realistic offer, it seems like we just went straight to trying to get the deal done without a lot of haggling- the Carlton fan fantasies of one of our top flight young midfielders being included were never realistic.

Even though I'd find it disappointing to say goodbye to Will and/or Oli I think this is a fair trade.

Loyalty is a two way street. As a fan I was upset when Hewett was let go, ditto Cameron would have taken on Dunkley who did not want leave Melbourne (is Brisbane a Melbourne suburb?) and don't get me started on the club being asleep at the wheel with Dawson. Throw in Nankervis, Stevens and Dempster. How would the club like it if their fans also decide to explore their options?

The club would likely say 'off you go then' if a fans loyalty was that weak.

Tend to agree. I think there'll still be some haggling over the pick coming back and will miss Wilbur in particular, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you want top flight talent.

Unfortunately, Ollie has never quite nailed it. He's had moments where he was important to our transition play and in the first half of last year his dancing feet were very good down back, but he just couldn't sustain it. I have no malice to him and always appreciate what he did to come to us given the circumstances of his draft year. He also seems the loveliest guy alive. But footy's a ruthless business, and it's time for a change.

So there it is.

The "later pick" is pick 22, Carlton's end-of-first round compensation pick for losing Jack Silvagni.

This addresses one of my concerns with the trade, where Sydney would be trading out a first-round pick and gimping our ability to recruit Academy players. Sliding down 11 spots in the draft costs 519 points, much less than the 1205 points that would be lost if no pick was coming back in the trade.

The trade still proposes that Sydney loses two players. Florent seems to be surplus to our needs right now. Hayward is a bigger loss IMO. I hope Rosas will be an adequate replacement.

It helps to have some perspective. Look at the players other teams are losing. Carlton has lost TDK and Silvagni to St Kilda. Essendon and North Melbourne are trying to hold on to club captains. West Coast lost Allen to free agency. Trade time is full of list changes, and it often happens that players are given up when players are recruited.

There is still the Buller and Serong trades to go. Buller also seems to be surplus to our needs if we end up getting Curnow. He is within his rights to seek a trade elsewhere for more opportunities. Serong wants to come to Sydney for the same reason. This may end up being little more than a straight player swap, with picks we get for Buller being on-traded for Serong.

We may also end up with a later points-bearing pick for the Buller trade but I'm not optimistic. More likely, pick 22 will be on-traded for later picks. Pick 22 is about the same level as King is rated, so there's a chance we may simply use it to draft King.

The Swans have put forward two players – Will Hayward and Ollie Florent – and two picks - pick No.11 this year and Sydney's first pick in 2026.



The deal would involve the Swans getting Curnow and pick 22 in return.

for me no deal. rocas wont replace wil not a marking fwd. would not let JB go to pies unless its for 39 and use it for academy. serong still pick 63 9no pints involved. he was recruited at 52 or lhereabouts. so like for like.

With this year's pick 22 coming back, it's a deal that I can live with. Curnow is a player who could easily kick bags of goals in important games and win us a final or two. While both Will and Ollie have played plenty of good games, I'm not sure either have put in too many match winning performances in finals? Though of course, I do hope that the club has done plenty of due diligence on Curnow's fitness, as it's a deal that could easily sour, if his recent injury concerns develop into something chronic.

I also think the deal reflects the club's opinion on what's coming through. In regards to Florent, he's spent a lot of time as a running half back. I've little doubt that that role could be done almost immediately by Carmichael: who I rate as the best of our academy prospects. He could probably do it with a bit more defensive grunt. With Hayward, perhaps King is seen as someone who could replace him as a forward flanker? Or maybe management have a higher opinion of Bowman, than many of us on here have? While our desire to chase Curnow, could indicate that we might be a touch concerned about McDonald and his prospects of fully overcoming the major foot surgery that he had?

So all up, I think that the deal has it's good points, but it's not risk free.

it will be interesting to see where curnow fits within the swans pay heirachy and what that may do to others. i know we probably wont find out but it is nonetheeless interesting.

All very good. I think the concern is probably less about McDonald, but what else sits behind him. Amartey showed his importance to us this year in how we looked between us when he was playing or not, but he's very injury prone and had one season free of it. McLean is serviceable, but that's his limit, and Buller is gone. We've got rucks after that.

Eagles will pay a lot is their trade a few years back with Geelong is any indication as they rebuild.........still

Geelong got No.14, the future first (No.18 in 2020), 24 and 37.
