Does anyone have a good idea of the number of vacancies on the main list?

Main list changes: Fox (delisted), Florent (traded), Hayward (traded), Mitchell (delisted). Four list spaces.
Rookie list changes: Buller (traded), Francis (delisted), Kirk (delisted), Leidler (delisted), Paton (delisted). These make no difference to the main list.

    New players: Curnow, Rosas, Serong.

Four players leaving, minus three new players leaves one list vacancy. Have I got this right?
Yes and no. All the changes that you've listed are accurate, but list sizes are a little bit variable. That is: the list of an AFL club is supposed to be 44 players, but that can be made up of 36, 37 or 38 on the main list, and conversely, 8, 7 or 6 on the rookie list. Last season we had a 36 and 8 split. So this season, if we wanted to, we could switch to 38 and 6. Which would mean that we could leave Rampe and Lloyd on the main list, and still have 3 spots open for the draft.

And now that I think of it, I did make the assumption that Hamling was re-signed to the rookie list, rather than the main list, and that neither of Edwards and Hanily will be promoted.

Wasn’t Francis on the senior list?

Possibly when we originally signed him, but he was on the rookie list last season.

My recollection is that he was redrafted in the rookie draft, together with Hamling. This appears to be a similar scenario to what will happen with Lloyd and Rampe if things go to plan on draft day.

I've done the exercise a couple of times, deja is correct, including Lloyd and Rampe we now have 35 on the senior list, so that's three picks to the ND.

If we want to possibly use a fourth pick, it's 62 that we hold, and it will come in a fair bit, we need to move someone to the rookie list, easily done using one of the players in their final season.

I'd like to go to the ND holding four picks, you never know what may crop up so it pays to have a pick available.
