The team / club has to stand for more than just the premierships that they win. Maybe I am just a bit romantic about it all, but football clubs have a heart and soul - the sum of which is made up by the players, administration and members, the supporters and its history.
If we just offload players without any regard to this mix, we lose part of the spirit of the club.
Sure I want my club to be successful, but not in expense of its heart and soul.
I think that is part of the problem that Essendon had since 2000. They made hard list management decisions about Heffernan, Blumfield and Caracella, which had long term affects on the spirit of their club.
The players no longer believed in each other and their club and it suffered (Hird really kept them afloat and maintained the essence of the spirit, but it fell away around him). Historically, Richmond has been another poor example.Comment

I don't follow players, I follow the team.
If by trading the players we won a premiership then it would be a successful outcome for the club and that would add to the club's history.
The club has had hundreds and hundreds of players - individually they are not important. The club is more important. This is in essence the 'Bloods' culture. There is little point to hanging onto players for sentimental reasons if that will drag the team down.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
