The Dempster/Schneider deal is a shocker. Both will go on. Disappointed at losing them...more disappointed in the return.

The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face. -
What???
If it is truethat we have traded two regulars for a second round pick I'd start an insider trading enquiry!
At worst I'd love to negotiate with Paul Roos to buy his house. Perhaps for $1,000 and a lemon tree!!!Comment

this has to be be the most insane and riduculous trade. how can schneider and dempster be worth a second rd pick together has the world gone mad. very ingenious way to make space on list.at times i wonder. mattner is a good trade i have no issue there but this.
if we need to make space on our list why is it that its so hard for this club to make the tough calls, mathews crouch retire, delist vogels tough break there never given a chance, phillips , doyle and 2 others there is six and our 3 draft picks and elevations from rookie list.
i am fuming, raging, mad
st kilda have gotten us back for plugger , bbbh, they must be laughing at the cheapest and best trade by any club.
no wonder everyone wants to deal with sydney we give picks and players away.Comment

cheapest and dumbest trade, why not throw in goodsey to while we at it
have we gone mad.........because im mad, fuming raging etc etc
saints get 2 decent players on the cheapComment

The stupid part is that apparently Leigh Fisher failed his medical in Sydney (reported in the Australian) so we didn't take him - Well does that mean we can't get anyone else???
The only reasonable and logical reason would be that we have a hidden gem to collect at 26. Unfortunately I doubt this though.
I'm reasonably happy with the Playfair trade and had heard rumours about it in Melbourne but the fact is TWO PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS IN THEIR PRIME!!!! FOR PICK 26????Comment
-
Let's look at this from an overall perspective:
Out: Schneider, Dempster, Pick # 28, Pick #44
In: Mattner, Playfair, Pick # 26
Fair enough. We retain our first pick, and are guaranteed to pick up Craig Bird with our 3rd rounder.
It's only when you look at the individual deals that you notice that the Schneider/Dempster trade is a bit more to St Kilda's favour. HOWEVER, neither of the two players going are what I would describe as anywhere consistent or hard enough at it for their talent. Maybe they'll play more to potential in a change of scenery. Maybe not. Good luck to both, I have had a soft spot for them but on reflection are the two I would have picked out of Bolton/Schneider/Dempster/Buchanan if I had a choice.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Hey guys we have until 2.00PM today to organise a trade of Buchanon and Jude Bolton for a third Round choice!!! I hope we find a sucker club to take the deal!!!Comment

If Roos has given them both for pick #26 means only one thing: those two guys were on the verge of being delisted. That's just my opinion. I've noticed in the past that Roos was kind enough to find the senior players a new home if possible (remember Saddington?).Comment

Roos admitted that Demspter became part of the Schneider trade as a favour to both him and Lyon.

I just don't understand it. Dempster was thrown in as a favour to he and Lyons? Was Dempster going to be delisted? If not that is just stupid.
According to the other article Ugg posted this morning we are all done with trading, so we didn't even get the pick to do something else. I am extremely annoyed right now. I can just see Mathews and Crouch lining up in the starting 22 and being a few steps behind the pace and gone within a year, whilst Schneider and Dempster take their pace and move into their prime for the Saints. I just don't get it.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I think it fair enough. Dempster was chasing opportunities and another club wanted him, it's just doing the right thing by the player
We needed to move Schneider on, for longevity he needed to develop the fitness to be a midfield runner and it wasn't happening. Drunks have a handful of incredibly good players (Del Santo, Ball Harvey Riewoldt), some injury prone massively over-rated ones Hayes, Koschitzke, Clarke. They have no depth on their list, that's why they still had 35 YO Thompson still running around. So really they had no players we would want, other than their best four.
Sorry to see Dempster go, happy to see Schneider moved on albeit he was a Premiership playerYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

Yes Dempster wanted to go, but surely we needed to get at least another draft pick (4th round) to compensate. We may pass on the pick, but at least we had the choice to pick someone up if they slipped through into the later rounds.
Perhaps our list will be full after taking the 3 picks in the ND and the extra pick is not worth asking for, but trading two 23yo premiership players for pick 26 is hard to stomach.
I hope Rossy Lyon has a long memory cos I'd expect a "favour" in return in trade week 2008 and 2009.
