FOR SCHNEIDER I WOULD WANT James Gwilt OR Leigh Montagna AND FOR DEMPSTER I WOULD WANT Sam Gilbert OR Luke Ball BUT ROOS GOOD ON YA 2 PLAYERS FOR 1 SECOND ROUND DRAFT PICK BARGAIN IM STOKED
You young turks need to take a deep breath and go and re-read OldRoyboys post earlier in the thread.
That post explains the position perfectly.
Do you realise if we picked up extra players or draft picks from the 'Aints, that would be extra players we would have to delist?
I'm happy to keep a Brabazon, Thornton, Simpkin type of player rather than punt on Pick 40, because they are the type of player that would get squeezed out if we loaded up on picks or fringe players from other clubs.
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09
Yea But Dont You See We Are Going Down The Path Of Carlton When The Halls Barrys Goodes Kirks Whos Going To Be There No 1 Wantes To Go To Sydney (draftees) Because They See It Takes 4 Years To Break Into The Team Which Is Pure Bs While We Play Crouch And Mathews And Bevan Who Are All @@@@ Lol I Wont See Another Premiership In My Lifetime
*sighs* I guess I'm not allowed to ring up and show my disapproval of Schneider being involved in trade talks. I guess it's un-Australian.
It's stupid to complain about something that hasn't happened yet.
It's stupid to complain to a footy club because you don't like their trade.
It's un-Australian to do all of that.
So where are you from?

Let's look at the facts (apologies to ORB, from whose post I stole some of this material).
- We needed to get rid of 5, maybe 6 players so we could make our mandatory picks at the draft.
- You can bet your arse that there would have been a shortlist of candidates for delisting
- I reckon one of them was Sean Dempster
- The trade with St Kilda would really have been Schneider for pick # 26. Fair deal, IMO
- Throwing Sean Dempster in would have been Roos and Lyons doing DEMPSTER a favour. I reckon Seanny would have known he was on the block - he would have been told "we are going to delist you, but will try to secure a trade so you get a chance elsewhere"
- Having said that, I think they probably would have floated several other names - Vogels, Grundy, Philips. Ross Lyon would have KNOWN that only one player on the delist pile would have enough talent and potential to take a punt on, that being Dempster
- So what have we done? Summary: Traded our 2nd round pick for a halfback type to shore up the defence and maybe move Kennelly or Malceski into midfield. Traded our 4th round pick (which we wouldn't have used anyway because we don't have the space) for KPP depth. Traded back into the second round by offering quality (Schneider). Found a new home for Dempster.
- We also retain our first three draft pick, one of them upgraded by 2 places and the 3rd to be used on a highly rated midfielder via the NSW scholarship.
Would people have been happier if Dempster hadn't been traded, but instead was delisted this afternoon? I'm not certain he would have added very much to St Kilda's line-up to be honest.
I think on balance, it was a pretty decent week for us. The only real downside was having to release a popular player in Schneider, and not securing any real compensation for Sean Dempster.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog
The Schneids/Dempster deal is so confusing to me....Dempster I feel is not a huge loss, but Schneids...!!! Even though he is inconsistent, he's a matchwinner -- tell me, who isn't inconsistent? And I thought we were after speed in our midfield...so far mattner and playfair hardly fit the bill there...wheres the speed coming from in 2008? I would have preferred to see the backend of B1 than poor little hobbit Schneids...
We've been the laughing stock down at the Bummers over the years for some of the trades Sheeds has conned us into...now I reckon Roosie must be paying Rossie back for a poker debt...it's bizzarre! And Henry Playfair, fCs, an average player is the best you can say about him...
PS: Im sending my art union tickets back to the swans, as they seem to have lied about B1 being traded...if this is true: "Roos said the Swans would not make any more deals in today's frantic final hours of trading, meaning they will retain their first national draft pick (No.11) and have traded up in the second round from No.28 (given to Adelaide for Martin Mattner) to No.26."
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."
No need to worry about me Footylover1, a Seventh Day Adventist family once said a prayer for me because they were worried about my direction in life and that didn't work, well not in their eyes. I can tell you I have gone on to much bigger and better things in life than the head of that family.
So don't worry about me, but I take your concerns on board.
When I read a thread, I usually browse through most of the comments, until I see a user name who is either going to be antagonistic and create a soap opera, who will have something to say worth reading, or who will make me laugh.
Congratulations!, I'll be looking for Nico as well now
Oh, and you too Footylover.
You're cool in a whipping boy kind of way

I think they're pushing for another premiership short term, but we'll be in trouble in a year or two when all the oldies drop off. There is already dead wood in the side that should have been dumped. Matthews, Bevan, Crouch to name a few.
Is Bolton staying? Get shot of him too.
At risk of being shot, Leo Barry isn't worth much either. Then again, maybe that's the point. We wouldn't get anything for him.
Don't see any premierships in the near or mid-term for us either. Have to agree. Dunno how old you are, but if you're my age, I do certainly hope to at least see another premiership. I is 30.
Not a big fan of Dempster - tends to panic when he gets the ball - doesn't look up and just kicks blindly far too often
Dempster is one of those players who is very lucky to have a medallion around his neck.
He's an average player at best, but is young enough to grow.
Obviously, the Swans don't see much growth in the near future if they are shopping him around.

I'm a bit disappointed by Dempster leaving. I thought he was a solid if unspectacular backman. I am certainly more upset that Bevan will more than likely keep his spot on the list - a player that offers a lot less than Dempster.
As far as today goes, I hope the Sydney camp doesn't pack up early and go home. There could still be trades to be done involving Jude and somehow obtaining another 1st round pick or upgrading our pick #11 to the top 10.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
The player that Schneider duplicates on the forward line is Davo. In terms of a small crumbing forward who can turn a game Davo is a mile in front. Schneider can play as a small defender but we have plenty of those Bevo, Crouch and Benny. He still hasn't developed his fitness to run with any midfielder as a defensive midfielder which speaks volumes for his lack of development. He simply cannot sustain his pace through a game in the midfield. His lack of athleticism tells against him which is staggering since he is supposed to be a professional athlete. Schneider is the Peter Pan of the club. The kid from the bush who got under the radar of the opposition in his first year simply hasn't grown up (athletically) If the trade doesn't come off hopefully he will get in the gym, seriously run and will we see something like a mature body emerge out of the race next year. At the moment he looks (physically) like he should be playing in the C Grade Amateur comp..
Yep, pretty good post.
Shows how long having a killer start to your career can keep you on the list.
