Is Hall finished?

The thing that gets me isn't that he kicked 0 goals today - it's the fact he can't keep his temper in check, and loses it often.
I hate playing any sport with people like this, as it destroys team morale, and alot of time is spent building up your teammates confidence after it's torn away by people like this.
Where's the Baz who needlessly gave away the Coleman to prove his commitment to the team?Last edited by Bloody Hell; 10 May 2009, 01:07 AM.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

We are seeing the result of a few years build up of frustration. 99% of the population would have lost it completely and chucked in the towel by now (well before the staker explosion).
Hall gets slaughtered by umpires week in and week out. he gets scragged, blocked, chopped, pushed and generally ridden like a donkey every week and the maggots turn a blind eye. Other forwards in the game only have to be breathed on to get a free from some umps. Hally could be missing his head and they wouldn't pay him a kick.
It happened again today, but the bigger issue was the appalling delivery/use of him by the midfield. Time and again they butchered gilt edged opportunities hall worked to create. What more can he do than what he did today - he worked his butt off to create space and lead, only to watch the midfield choose dumb and dumber options all day. You'd need the patience of a saint not to get a little ticked off!
It didn't help that across the board the Cats gave a master class in accurate kicking to advantage, while our blokes gave the direct opposite. You could make a video of it - cats passage of play followed by a swans passage with at least 15 examples to show little leaguers how to and how not to deliver the ball. Hally could no more fix this from the forward line than fly to the moon.
And if anyone in the team should be singled out, look no further than Teddy. He copped a hiding of Dawson proportions, and will be happy Hally is copping all the flak - it would all be on ted's doorstep otherwise!
Baz is still a valuable member of the team and all you people with short memories should cut him a bit of slack.Last edited by SwansFan1972; 10 May 2009, 01:24 AM.Comment

But yeah - the shape we're in now, it's time to start thinking ahead. And his crumbling temper (however well-deserved, stupid umpires etc etc) is getting worrisome. Although part of me hopes, his very last game ever, he hauls off and knocks out an umpire or two in the game's closing seconds ...Comment

Struggled yesterday but the delivery was appalling.
Not the player he was but still has a role to play.Bloods

Agree. As i said in another thread he's slowing down but not gone and the team needs to acknowledge that and not rely on him but use him as part of a structure not just with Hall as the main part of that structure. If we can have Grundy getting more marks in dangerous spots and Mick O comes into some real form we can again have a dangerous forward line. Baz still has a role there, its just not like 4 years ago.Comment

Sadly, I think he's finished - but i'd love to be proven wrong.
There must be some sports psychologist in the world who can get through to him that the world is not against him. Just the umpies. Oh, and Staker's mum.
Baz is a liability in that it's far too easy for his opponent's to gee him up & he will always be the one penalised in this situation. yesterday he was made look like a fool by the masters of annoying opponents.Comment

So do you still think he will be a part of our next premiership tilt?Comment

Apart from the one this year, I don't think so.
Maybe he improves over the next 12 weeks to warrant a contract renewal, but at this stage I see Hall finishing the year and bowing out of the sport, at least at this level.10100111001 ;-)Comment

By premiership tilt I mean our next serious crack at a flag.
Geelong are the benchmark of the comp, and they smashed us yesterday.
We are at least a couple of years away from being able to beat sides of Geelong's quality. Can anyone see Hall playing on beyond 2010?Comment

I'll never say never. Only when we are out of the race will I concede we can't win the flag this year. For all you know, Geelong could decide they're too good for the AFL and boycott the rest of the season until they get Whiskas instead of KiteKat.10100111001 ;-)Comment

You pick a side on form.if a youngster is currently better than Hall you pick him.Hall therefore deserves his spot and we are currently playing the 2009 season not the 2010. You have to win a spot in the A's not be given a chance to develop.Comment

Whatever opinions people have of Barry Hall, today I am prepared to cut him a lot of slack, it was about the worst delivery to the forward line in my 50 years in following the red and white.
There had to be a dozen times coming into the forward line where players tried to short pass to a small player whether on the lead or static, when Hall or MOL made leads or were one out in the square. There were times when they were both in the square.
There were so many culprits but Mattners brain exposion after about 4 bounces, dodged a couple of players then kicked about 10 metres to nothing topped the lot, closely followed by a couple of Malceski howlers. I just don't get it. The more you stuff around and give Geelong a sniff the more they slaughter you on the rebound. How many times did that happen today.
I think, is this part of the game plan, because it happens too often to be coincidence. It is a serious flaw in our game.
a pathway. Then Mattner would have spotted Hall.Very poor forward play!Comment
