Sorry but any punch thrown when the recipient has no clue it's coming and can therefore not defend himself borders on a dog act.

Apparently Davo had a blinder in the Reserves so that augers well for Swans...hopefully.

Geelong > Belconnen. Not as a place to live, but probably in terms of footballing ability.

Hmmm so Starker thought he could be all over Hall like a cheap suit, with Hall not reacting.
Probably didn't expect the reaction he got, but there was always the possibility.

By reports Nick D played well in the Reserves, but Belconnen aren't in the Geelong class.

As Darcy said on After the Game, players no longer expect that sort of thing. That's why everyone was so shocked - it rarely happens any more.
          True.

Maybe Hall thought he was part of the action of last week's WC v Freo derby match with all those incidents that went unnoticed... it's kind of a full-circle week for Staker since he accidentally kneed someone in the head last week that put the player out of action for the match.

Yeah it's Staker's fault. He should have known it was coming and blocked the punch.

What does it mean.."a punch thrown when the recipient has no clue it's coming and can therefore not defend himself borders on a dog act"... with all respect.. what should have Barry said? "hey.. I am gonna punch you now.. make sure your protect your ugly face" common... they push , punch each other all the time... this one just happened to be... the 'wrong' one.. and they milked it.. they kept the vicitm out all game.. now they have a good reason why their performance was so poor... they lost because Bazza.. knocked out their player.. and they were so traumatised ... and now you can also put a bet on it.. how long will he stay out.. etc etc

As I said it was a possibility of some over the top reaction from Hall out of frustration.
Not condoning the actions of Hall, but not a cheap shot either.

Punches are RARELY thrown in the AFL and the interaction between Staker and Hall before the punch was thrown was nothing you wouldn't see many times in the game. Therefore Staker had no way of knowing what Hall was going to do and therefore could not defend himself.

We'll agree to disagree on this. My question is though, would you be of this opinion if Lynch had belted Bolton?

Edit: If you look at the replay, Staker was looking at the Umpire when Hall threw the punch.

I watched about half of the Geelong v StKilda game today and thought that at any moment Cam Mooney was going to belt someone. He was getting very frustrated with the attention from the opposition and the lack of help from the Umps.

Pity Baz didn't take a leaf out of his book.

Wasn't a great thing to do, but a well placed punch on somebodies chin is hardly the 'worst thing I can remember on the field' and 'a dog act'.

Hollands roundhouse on Williams' when he was looking the other way was way more a dog act. Any amount of blatant elbows we have seen in the past 5 years are more dog acts.

Most likely 5-6, possibly 7. 4 is on the cards though. Hall's eyes weren't actually on Staker when he struck him, so the Swans could argue that to a certain degree it was unintentional, which may bring it down to "reckless". Also, an early guilty plea might get the penalty down. But, I'd put him down for 5-6 weeks.

it was a stupid thing to do and I reckon he'll get 4 weeks but wouldnt be suprised with 6-8 weeks. Will be out for a while after his effort of running into the fence as well.

Very bittersweet, but apart from that unsavoury incident I have taken great pleasure out of smashing those Weagles. Weakened they were, but they were dreadful and again I think we showed some really really good signs. And sounds like Davis played very well for the 2nd's- I saw about the last 15 minutes and he was very busy, and pulled out a super piece of skill to set up a teamate at a critical time at the end of the game. He should slot back into the forward line next week I feel.

It was actually a case of Staker assaulting Barry's hand with his jaw. The touch to Hunter was far more comical, especially how he then tried to milk it and make it look worst.

In any event, Barry was going to miss the next few weeks anyway while he recovers from his fractured wrist (which would normally take 6 weeks).
