Staker was looking over at the umpire when he was hit, and he was hit with more force than Williams was. Note also Williams had jumper punched Holland already (he deserved it as he's a tool, but it was still in response to more than annoying tactics).

To quote me correctly, I said it was "one of the worst acts" and there aren't too many worst acts in the past five years that I can think of.

The defence of Hall is staggering for a punch to the jaw when if the roles were reversed people would be calling the opponent for everything (and do).

I didn't see any vision of Jack holding, pinching, molesting Kerr.

Staker was doing all of these things...

I want to know why was no free kick paid? Is it because the umpires absolutely despise Barry Hall?

He had a brain snap yes.... but bugger me happens to best...Plus I dont think he actually wanted to hit him there..... His eyes were not even looking at him when he connected.....

Jack wore Kerr like a glove. Just as Crouch, Kirk and all Sydneys other taggers have always done. The treatment Hall was getting last night was no different to what he always gets. He probably had a blow up with his missus yesterday afternoon, or couldn't get a parking spot at Homebush, or someone was sitting in is seat in the changerooms, because he snapped last night and has done very little for himself, the team or the club in doing so.

Our taggers do that sort of thing all the time, as do our backs. As do many backs and taggers.

He had looked away, but he'd already turned and sized him up. Pretty easy to his a stationary target in that situation when you're a boxer.

Maybe not, but I don't recall seeing anyone else say it was the "worst act".

Ok.........so what happens if he weren't a boxer..... would everyone be blowing up like this?

The fact that everyone knows he can box is going to hurt him (unfairly) come tribunal time....

I just hope he gets 4-6 and not something more.

The fact that he can box unfairly hurt Staker too!

I totally agree with you ROK..... it was an insipid act....especially when he is playing some absolutely sensational footy. I felt gutted afterwards and flat for rest of night. I just think for someone to "snap" like that there is always a reason.

What happened before that actual incident?

I've been watching it over and over on Youtube, and it's just so bizarre. He wasn't even looking at Staker when he did it, but it didn't look like it was meant to be a scare tactic either.

I think it was a poor act, but I can't quite bring myself to feel the moral outrage that some here do. He was being niggled and reacted badly and should be suspended for 4-6 weeks. I reckon he must be hating himself right about now.

                            Grappling is not reasonable provocation.

I still wonder if people would think it was justifiable* if the roles were reverse (like if Akker had decked Crouch).

                            * 'justifiable' is not really the right word - more like 'reasonable' or 'understandable'.

But he does turn and look at Staker just before he hits him.

You must have found it hard to sleep last night NMW, so excited knowing that you'd be able to reply saying the same thing a dozen times in this thread, all the time sticking the knife into Barry Hall.

I'm not sure that anyone has suggested it was justifiable. Or if anyone has, they are in such a small minority.

Mostly I just feel sad and a bit empty.

I love watching this bloke play when he's in full flight, and after the last two weeks I thought we were going to get plenty more of vintage Hall this season.

The last quarter means that whatever the tribunal hands down isn't going to cost him games. He'd be out for longer regardless. But it's going to give him a lasting stain on his record and reputation, and the football he's played deserves better than that. He's done himself a huge disservice.

Do I think it was the worst thing seen on a footy field for the last 20 years? Or an act of premeditated thuggery? No.
